Patent number: 11826985Abstract: Improved aluminum can end stock (CES) is disclosed. The CES includes an adhered polymer coating exhibiting low feathering and high performance in various acid tests. The low feathering and resistance to acid tests is accomplished by incorporating a copolymer adhesion promoter film to an aluminum alloy before lamination. In some cases, the metal strip is pretreated with a conversion layer, which can include compounds of trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) and phosphates or titanium and zirconium.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2019Date of Patent: November 28, 2023Assignee: Novelis Inc.Inventors: Peter Spahn, Christian Tussing, Michael Heinemann, Dhiren Bhupatlal Ruparelia, Joerg Hoehne

Patent number: 11491509Abstract: Coating material combination consisting of a coating material for forming a surfacer coat and a coating material for forming a topcoat, and use thereof for producing a coating system consisting of a surfacer coat and topcoat on a substrate. The substrate preferably comprises the body or the cabin of a motor vehicle, or a constituent thereof. The coating material combination of the invention is suitable especially for producing coatings consisting of a cured surfacer coat and a cured topcoat on automobiles and commercial vehicles, such as trucks, vans, or buses.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2016Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: BASF COATINGS GMBHInventors: Bernd Mayer, Andreas Hanning, Joerg Hoehne, Katharina Hoelker, Sabine Klaas, Reinhard Wiesing

Patent number: 10851263Abstract: Disclosed are improved water-based, polyamide-containing synthetic polymer coating compositions and related products and processes. The coating composition comprises 1 to 40% dry weight of polyamide powder, and can contain higher polyamide content than organic solvent-based coating products containing polyamide and polyurethane. The improved coating compositions are suitable for coating of metal substrates, such as aluminum sheets and panels. The improved coating compositions are also suitable for industrial coil coating processes, forming a thin and uniform coating layer when applied to a metal substrate, such as an aluminum sheet surface. Methods and processes related to production and uses of the coating compositions are described, as well as products produced by the processes using the coating compositions, such as roller shutters and architectural panels.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2016Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: NOVELIS INC.Inventors: Joerg Hoehne, Emilie Goydadin

Publication number: 20180354234Abstract: Described herein are coating systems for preparing multi-layered finishes, multi-layered finish coated substrates, and methods of applying multi-layered finishes to substrates. A coating system for preparing the multi-layered finishes includes a base coating component and a clear coating component comprising non-lightfast colorant particles having a color intensity. The color intensity of the colorant particles decreases upon exposure to light.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2018Publication date: December 13, 2018Applicant: Novelis Inc.Inventors: Joerg Hoehne, Caecilia Schwager

Publication number: 20130260669Abstract: A cooler for cooling hot bulk material, in which cooling gas flows transversely to the conveying direction through a bulk material bed cooling the bulk material. An apparatus carrying the bulk material bed has a ventilation floor comprised of movable planks extending in the conveying direction through which cooling gas flows. At least two adjacent planks are moved simultaneously in the conveying direction and non-simultaneously counter to the conveying direction. The planks have differently configured surfaces, on which the bulk material bed lies, in the conveying direction, and these surfaces, due to different frictional locking with the bulk material bed lying thereon, lead to differing mean transport speeds, and as a result the bulk material bed is stretched in a region of quicker conveying and compressed in a region of slower conveying. The apparatus tumbles the bulk material with vertical mixing, thereby heat is recuperated efficiently.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2011Publication date: October 3, 2013Inventors: Jarmo Eloranta, Andre Sybon, Klaus Zenker, Hakan Okka, Joerg Hoehne
