  • Patent number: 6449553
Abstract: A vehicle engine control apparatus has a driver-operated engine operation preset control element and a speed regulation stage and/or limiting stage for regulating or limiting, respectively, the speed of travel using an engine-power-related nominal preset signal and emitting an engine-power-related speed regulation or speed limiting control signal. A torque characteristic stage emits an engine-torque related nominal preset signal as a function of the operation of the engine operation preset control element and of engine rotation speed information. This nominal preset signal is supplied to an engine/power characteristic stage which is provided on the input side of the speed regulation or limiting stage and determines the engine-power-related nominal preset signal from this as a function of the engine rotation speed.

  • Patent number: 6364808
Abstract: An apparatus for changing the transmission ratio of a continuously adjustable transmission as part of a cruise control system for motor vehicles, this part being provided with a controller (18) for the formation of a change value (ISOLL) for the transmission ratio as a function of the difference by which the actual value of the speed of travel (VIST) in overrun operation exceeds a stipulated value (VSCHRUB). An adding stage (20) is used for the formation of a desired value (ISOLL—F) for the transmission ratio from the change value (ISOLL) and the stored desired value (IVSCHUB) of the transmission ratio at the beginning of overrun operation, it being possible for this desired value (ISOLL—F) to be fed to a transmission-ratio controller for the transmission. As a result, a defined increase in vehicle speed leads to a similar change in the transmission ratio in each vehicle-speed range, and the transmission intervention is always ended exactly at the same transmission ratio at which it began.

  • Patent number: 5781876
Abstract: A cruise control road speed control device provides an attenuating member connected between the speed control and the fuel injection volume adjusting member. The attenuating member feeds the controller output signal in a lower value range to the adjusting member after attenuation. This measure suppresses the undesired rpm oscillations and thus, even with cruise control operation at low engine loads, permits satisfactory driving comfort without perceptible juddering effects. The cruise control can be used for controlling the road speed of commercial vehicles with Diesel engines and automatic transmissions.

  • Patent number: 5663880
Abstract: A cruise control road speed control device optimizes the transient behavior during activation of speed control phases. The cruise control device has an additional device located outside the speed controller in the form of a load adaptation element. The load adaptation element sets the speed control output signal, upon activation of a speed control phase via an engine-load-adjusting additional signal, to a value that is required for a constant transition of the driving-force-determining control signal and in the subsequent transient phase of speed control with linkage to the output signal of the speed controller, for a return of this additional term to a value of zero, without the behavior of the speed controller being influenced thereby. This permits a very smooth transition from a previous driving phase into a cruise-control-determined speed control phase.
