  • Patent number: 10308523
Abstract: A process for water removal and/or recycling of sodium sulphate and/or sodium dithionate containing liquors derived from processing a cobalt resource derived from components of lithium ion batteries comprising steps of deriving from the cobalt resource a solution containing cobalt sulphate and cobalt dithionate, precipitation of cobalt as cobaltous carbonate or cobaltous hydroxide followed by removal thereof from the liquor, crystallization of sodium sulphate and sodium dithionate and removal of the resulting crystals, followed by heating of the crystals to anhydrous sodium sulphate, sulphur dioxide and water and then separating the anhydrous sodium sulphate.

  • Patent number: 9178217
Abstract: A multiply-conductive matrix (MCM) for a current collector/electrode and a method of making the MCM are disclosed. The MCM includes a frame, preferably including a lug, the frame preferably made from a reticulated polymer foam substrate, and a body preferably made from the same substrate. The specific surface area of the frame is greater than the specific surface area of the body, resulting in greater rigidity and strength of the frame when the body and frame are joined to form an assembled matrix. Electrically conductive material is applied to the matrix to form the current collector. Optionally, a bonding material is also applied. Electro-active paste is applied to current if collector. The resulting MCM-based electrodes are ultra light and may be used as anode or cathodes in a lead-based battery, lithium ion battery, and nickel metal hydride battery for improved performance.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 3, 2015

  • Publication number: 20110262813
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing current collectors, current collectors made by such a process, and batteries containing current collectors made by such a process. The current collector is produced from a polymer substrate that is rendered electro-conductive and is electroplated at temperatures that are less than a softening temperature of the substrate. The substrate can be rendered electro-conductive by applying an electro-conductive material and/or by including a powder in the substrate, wherein the powder is carbon powder, a metal powder, or a metal-alloy powder.
