Patent number: 11688638Abstract: A system to manufacture a plurality of dies may include an etching tool, an electrically-conductive-adhesive-composition, a heat-applying-extraction-tool and a porous substrate cooperating with an evacuation component. The etching tool uses an ion beam that is configured to singulate a plurality of dies on a wafer with an ion etching process. The electrically-conductive-adhesive-composition is located between the wafer and a porous substrate carrying the wafer during the ion etching process. The electrically-conductive-adhesive-composition adheres the wafer to the porous substrate to keep the dies in place during the ion etching process. The electrically-conductive-adhesive-composition also aids in conducting electrons away from the wafer as a drain during the ion etching process.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2018Date of Patent: June 27, 2023Assignee: SRI InternationalInventors: Winston K. Publication number: 20230049199Abstract: The disclosure describes vacuum cell assemblies that integrate a vacuum envelope with a photonic integrated circuit (PIC). Walls of the vacuum envelope are coupled to the PIC, such as through anodic bonding, so that the PIC forms at least one wall of the vacuum envelope and provides an optically accessible medium and surface for transmitting and distributing light into various cavities of the vacuum envelope through one or more nonplanar waveguides. A surface of the PIC may include a material that is compatible with a material of the walls of the vacuum envelope, such as a silicon-based vacuum envelope bonded to a silicon nitride or amorphous silicon surface of the PIC. Each waveguide may include a bridge structure that forms a planar surface for tightly bonding with the vacuum envelope and preserves properties of the transmitted light between opposing sections of the waveguide.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2020Publication date: February 16, 2023Inventors: Sterling Eduardo McBride, Joey J. Michalchuk, Seth Charles Caliga, Alan M. Braun

Patent number: 11569077Abstract: The disclosure includes an outer electrode and an inner electrode. The outer electrode defines an inner volume and is configured to receive injected electrons through at least one aperture. The inner electrode positioned in the inner volume. The outer electrode and inner electrode are configured to confine the received electrons in orbits around the inner electrode in response to an electric potential between the outer electrode and the inner electrode. The apparatus does not include a component configured to generate an electron-confining magnetic field.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2018Date of Patent: January 31, 2023Assignee: SRI INTERNATIONALInventors: Sterling Eduardo McBride, Joey J. Patent number: 5625251Abstract: A color cathode-ray tube 10 has an evacuated envelope 11 with an electron gun 26 therein for generating at least one electron beam 28. The envelope further includes a faceplate panel 12 having a luminescent screen 22 with phosphor lines on an interior surface thereof. A uniaxial tension focus mask 25, having a plurality of spaced-apart first metal strands 40, is located adjacent to an effective picture area of the screen 22. The spacing between the first metal strands 40 defines a plurality of slots 42 substantially parallel to the phosphor lines of the screen. Each of the first metal strands 40, across the effective picture area of the screen, has a substantially continuous first insulator layer 64 on a screen-facing side thereof. A second insulator layer 66 overlies the first insulator layer 64. A plurality of second metal strands 60 are oriented substantially perpendicular to the first metal strands 40 and are bonded thereto by the second insulator layer 66.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1995Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Richard W. Patent number: 5613889Abstract: The present invention provides a method of making a tensioned focus mask. Such a mask includes a set of parallel strands and a set of parallel wires that are perpendicular to the strands and separated from the strands by insulator means. The method includes attaching the strands to a mask frame and then coating the strands with a first insulator. The first insulator is then cured, and a second insulator is applied to the first insulator. Next, wires are wound over and in contact with the second insulator, by rotating the mask frame and by drawing a continuous wire from a source through a tensioner, while guiding the continuous wire into desired positions overlying the strands. Finally, the second insulator is heated until the wires attach to the second insulator.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Inventors: Richard W. Nosker, Joey J. Michalchuk, Paul Kuczer, Elmer W. Hodge

Patent number: 5594300Abstract: The present invention provides an improvement in a color picture tube having a tensioned mask and support frame assembly. Each of the mask and the support frame is rectangular and has two long sides that parallel a central major axis thereof and two short sides that parallel a central minor axis thereof. The mask has a substantially cylindrical contour, being curved along the major axis and straight along the minor axis. The improvement comprises the frame including two first members that parallel the major axis and two second members, attached to the ends of the first members, that parallel the minor axis. Each of the first members includes a rigid section and a compliant section cantilevered from the rigid section. The mask is attached to the distal ends of the cantilevered compliant sections.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1995Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Assignee: Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Richard W. Nosker, Joey J. Michalchuk, Richard C. Bauder, Frank R. Ragland, Jr.

Patent number: 5507677Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus 50 for pre-stressing a material of a CRT tension mask 24 to induce creep. The apparatus 50 includes a support frame 52 having a first major surface 54 and an oppositely disposed second major surface 56. A boss 58 is provided on the first major surface 54. A primary clamp 60 having a first jaw 62 is spaced from the boss 58 and attached to the first major surface 54. The primary clamp 60 further includes an adjustable second jaw 64 communicating with the first jaw 62 to clamp the material of the mask 24 therebetween. A movable secondary clamp 70 is located in proximity to the boss 58. The secondary clamp 70 has a third jaw 72 attached to an axle 74 that is disposed within an elongated aperture 82 formed in a support post 84 attached to the support frame 52. An adjustable fourth jaw 86 communicates with the third jaw 72 to clamp the mask material therebetween.
