Patent number: 10427317Abstract: A battery-powered portable cutting tool includes a housing, a cutting element, an electric motor to drive the cutting element to cut, a battery to supply electric current to the motor and a control circuit to control the supply of electric current to the motor from the battery. The control circuit may include a main switch and an auxiliary switch. The control circuit may have an active state in which the main switch allows electric current to flow to the motor and an inactive state in which the main switch does not allow electric current to flow to the motor. The operation of the auxiliary switch causes the control circuit to change between the active and inactive states. The auxiliary switch is arranged to determine whether the tool is in an inappropriate state to be used and, if so, cause the control circuit to change to the inactive state.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2010Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: HUSQVARNA ABInventors: Pär Martinsson, Johan Svennung, Johan Björnlinger

Patent number: 9224995Abstract: A battery pack for powering a battery powered tool may include a housing, a plurality of cells and an electrical connection assembly. The housing may include a sidewall assembly configured to correspond to respective sidewalls of a battery compartment defined at a portion of the battery powered tool to facilitate insertion of the battery pack into the battery compartment. The sidewall assembly may form an enclosure around the plurality of cells on all sides substantially parallel to the direction of insertion. The electrical connection assembly may be disposed at a portion of the sidewall assembly to communicate the combined output to a connector disposed at a corresponding sidewall of the battery compartment. The electrical connection assembly may be arranged to engage the connector responsive to movement of the battery pack in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of insertion of the battery pack into the battery compartment.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2011Date of Patent: December 29, 2015Assignee: HUSQVARNA ABInventors: Par Martinsson, Johan Bjornlinger, Oskar Bergquist, Mikael Racov, Johan Svennung

Patent number: 9138846Abstract: A battery-powered tool includes: a housing, a driven element supported by the housing, an electric motor coupled to the driven element so as to drive the driven element, a battery electrically coupled to the motor so as to supply electric current to the motor and a control circuit arranged to control the supply of electric current to the motor from the battery. The control circuit includes a main switch operable by a user and an auxiliary switch also operable by a user. The control circuit has an active state in which operation of the main switch by the user allows electric current to flow to the motor to cause the driven element to be driven; and an inactive state in which operation of the main switch does not allow electric current to flow to the motor and so the motor does not drive the driven element. Operation of the auxiliary switch causes the control circuit to change between the active and inactive states.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2014Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: HUSQVARNA ABInventors: Johan Svennung, Pär Martinsson, Johan Björnlinger
