  • Publication number: 20070195074
Abstract: A power saving management device includes a controller, a sensor (110, 111) in communication with the controller for providing status of whether or not the sensor is active. A power circuitry module is in communication with the controller and with at least one of a predetermined non-essential circuitry (127) and a display (125). The controller signals the power circuitry module to power on at least one of a predetermined non-essential circuitry and the display when an amount sensed by the sensor reaches a first predetermined threshold amount. The predetermined non-essential circuitry can include one or more of: non-essential storage or media that require either constant power or at least a periodic refreshing, including a diskette drive and a controller, a cd/dvd or other types of drives and respective controllers, expanded storage, cache storage, predetermined communication circuitry, output ports, a transmitter, and sound circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20050162558
Abstract: A multimedia authoring system (100) includes a user interface (250) for receiving input from a user. A title generator (210) is used to generate a multimedia title under control of input of the user. A resource checker (220) includes a memory (240) for storing, for a predetermined rendering platform (140, 150) resource information on maximum capabilities of a plurality of rendering resources of the rendering platform. A resource monitor (230) in the resource checker receives from the title generator claims/releases on rendering resources by the title being generated. The resource monitor monitors for each of the rendering resources the claims made by the title. It provides an indication to the user if at least one claim on the rendering resources exceeds a maximum capability of a corresponding resource.

  • Publication number: 20050141850
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus (110) for receiving and displaying a stream of audiovisual information (200). During display of the stream of audiovisual information (200), the display may be interrupted by an application (220). This causes a user to miss part of the audiovisual information (200). It is therefore proposed to store the audiovisual information (200) during the application (220) and present the missed content (202) to the user after the interruption. The storage is automatically triggered by the start of the application (220). However, this causes a delay in the display of the audiovisual information (200). The user is offered the possibility to let the displayed stream of audiovisual information (210) catch up with the received audiovisual information (200). This catch-up may be performed automatically, triggered by the end of the application (220).

  • Publication number: 20050114887
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards methods, devices and a signal format for providing information for achieving better perceived image quality of a transmitted video data stream. A video and information transmitting unit (28) in a device (20) transmits a video data stream and information about subjective quality relating to the video data stream in a signal comprising at least one frame with a header section, a motion vector section and a compressed image section. A device for processing a video data stream (32) includes a video and information receiving unit (34) which receives the signal, a decoding unit (38), which decodes the video data stream, and a control unit (36), which controls use of the information about subjective quality when processing the video data stream in order to achieve better perceived image quality.
