  • Publication number: 20090271074
Abstract: The present invention relates is a yaw stability control system for a vehicle using a steering system and a method of controlling by detecting the occurrence of understeer, determining the degree of understeer after the occurrence of understeer is detected determining if the determined degree of understeer exceeds a threshold value, saving the steering wheel torque value and steering wheel angle value when determined that a calculated drop in steering wheel torque exceeds the threshold value, calculating a guidance torque, a driver-intended steering wheel angle, and updating the steering wheel angle at the start of the guidance torque calculation, applying the guidance torque to the steering of the vehicle, and using the driver-intended steering wheel angle for yaw stability control.

  • Publication number: 20080243348
Abstract: The present invention refers to systems and to methods for determining at least one parameter relating to a tire-to-road contact and/or a relation between a wheel and a vehicle motion. In particular, the present invention refers to systems and to methods for determining the coefficient of friction between a tire and a road surface. • Publication number: 20080109135
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing a risk of or avoiding a roll-over event of a vehicle, having means of an electronic controllable steering system and an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit identifies the occurrence of the roll-over risk, such that control means generate a signal in order to steer the road wheels more into the direction in which the vehicle is tending to roll-over.

  • Patent number: 7322448
Abstract: Brake member where the occurrence of brake squeal when a fluctuating load is applied onto the brake member is reduced by way of a brake member or arrangement that includes a backing plate carrying a brake lining which exhibits at least one contact surface and side surfaces surrounding that contact surface and in which the side surfaces are connected to the contact surface and to the backing plate. The contact surface is adapted to exhibit an edge area surrounding the contact surface and in which at least a portion of the edge area exhibits a local deformation stiffness in a direction vertical to a plane through the contact surface which differs, at most, fifteen percent from the deformation stiffness in a central area in the interior of the contact surface. Utilization of this brake member is equally applicable in disc- and drum-style brake arrangements that can suffer from the occurrence of brake squeal when applying a fluctuating load onto the brake member.

  • Publication number: 20040118642
Abstract: Method and arrangement for providing a disc brake (1) for land vehicles having a brake disc (2) rotating with a wheel axle (3). A brake caliper (4) is mounted in a movable manner in a nonrotating wheel-axle housing that is arranged about said wheel axle (3). The two brake linings (5), one on each side of the brake disc (2), are configured in such a way that, when acted upon by an activating mechanism (8), they are caused to bear against the sides (9) of the brake disc (2) for transmitting a braking torque to the wheel axle (3). The brake caliper (4) includes two brake-lining holders (10, 11) which are axially displaceable relative to one another and relative to the wheel-axle housing (3). The brake-lining holders (10, 11) each have at least one actuation surface (12, 13, 14, 15)for engagement with the activating mechanism (8), as a result of which the brake-lining holders (10, 11) are displaced toward each other upon activation.

  • Patent number: 6371258
Abstract: The invention concerns a means (12) for carrying a friction pad (13), which is a part of a system for retarding rotational movement, e.g. at a rotating shaft. The carrier means (12) is intended for distributing the press force from a brake mechanism via a contact surface to the friction pad (13) mounted upon said means (12). In its active position, the pad cooperates with the surface (10, 18) connected to the object of rotation wherein the carrier means (12) with the friction pad (13) is oriented extending along a sector of the rotation diameter of the contact surface. The carrier means (12) is so designed that the value of the local natural angle frequency varies between one end of said sector of the rotation diameter of the contact surface and the other end of said sector.
