  • Patent number: 11008933
Abstract: A four stroke internal combustion engine is disclosed comprising at least one cylinder arrangement, an exhaust conduit, and at least one turbine. The cylinder arrangement comprises an exhaust port arrangement configured to open and close an exhaust flow area, ACYL. The cylinder arrangement has a maximum volume, VMAX. The exhaust conduit extends between the exhaust flow area, ACYL, and a turbine wheel inlet area, ATIN, of the turbine and has an exhaust conduit volume, VEXH that is ?0.5 times the maximum volume, VMAX. The exhaust port arrangement is configured to expose the exhaust flow area, ACYL, at a size of at least 0.22 times the maximum volume, VMAX, when a piston of the cylinder arrangement is at the bottom dead centre, BDC.

  • Publication number: 20190153906
Abstract: Provided is a four stroke internal combustion engine comprising at least one cylinder arrangement, a crankshaft, a camshaft, and a turbine. The camshaft is synchronized with the crankshaft to rotate at a same rotational speed as the crankshaft. A linkage arrangement is configured to prevent the motion of the valve head every alternate rotation of the camshaft, such that the exhaust opening remains closed during a compression stroke of the piston. Also a method for controlling a four stroke internal combustion engine is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7654244
Abstract: An arrangement and a method for a combustion engine for self-ignition of a fuel mixture. A first device supplies a first partial quantity of the fuel mixture to the combustion space, and a second device supplies a second partial quantity of the fuel mixture to the combustion space, which second partial quantity of the fuel mixture is at a different fuel concentration from the first partial quantity of the fuel mixture. The devices supply the first and the second partial quantities of the fuel mixture as to create in the combustion space at least one region which is at a higher fuel concentration than other regions and in which the self-ignition of the fuel mixture is intended to start.

  • Patent number: 7261085
Abstract: An arrangement and a method for controlling a combustion engine, e.g. of the type called HCCI engine. A control unit for controlling the self-ignition of the fuel mixture towards an optimum crankshaft angel (cadiopt) within a load range (Ltot). The load range (Ltot) can be divided into at least two subranges (LI, LII) and the control unit is adapted to controlling the self-ignition of the fuel mixture towards an optimum crankshaft angle (cadiopt) within a first subrange (LI) by means of a strategy (I) which entails a variable amount of hot exhaust gases being supplied to or retained in the combustion chamber, and within a second subrange (LII) by means of another strategy (II) which entails the effective compression ratio (c) in the cylinder being varied.

Abstract: An arrangement and a method for controlling a combustion engine, e.g. of the type called HCCI engine. A control unit is operable for controlling the self-ignition of the fuel mixture towards an optimum crankshaft angle (cadiopt) within a load range (Ltot). The load range (Ltot) can be divided into at least two subranges (LII, LIII). The control unit is operable to controlling the self-ignition of the fuel mixture towards an optimum crankshaft angle (cadiopt) within one of the subranges (LII) by a strategy (II) which entails the effective compression ratio (c) in the cylinder being varied, and within the second subrange (LIII) by another strategy (III) which entails a variable amount of cooled exhaust gases (ceg) being led to the combustion chamber also enabling in the second subrange (LIII) to control the self-ignition of the fuel mixture towards an optimum crankshaft angle (cadiopt) by variation of the effective compression ratio (c) in the cylinder without it falling below a lowest acceptable value (Cmin).

  • Patent number: 6729279
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement for controlling at least one engine valve (25) of a combustion engine. The arrangement incorporates a hydraulic circuit with a pump (1), a control valve (2) which is designed to control a flow of medium in the circuit, and a power device (3) which is designed to move the engine valve (25) between open and closed positions. The pump (1) is designed to circulate a flow of medium continuously in at least part of the circuit during an operating state of the combustion engine, and the control valve (2) is designed to direct as necessary the flow of medium circulated by the pump (1) to the power device (3) so that the latter moves the motor valve (25) in a desired direction.
