  • Publication number: 20060194922
Abstract: The invention relates to hydroxyl-functional binder components ABC containing a linear or branched main chain having a polymethylene structure ā€”(CH2)nā€” or a polyester structure or a structure derived from the fatty acid esters of glycerin or other polyvalent alcohols. The invention is characterized in that said components have grafted cyclic imide structures on the main chain, wherein the imide-nitrogen atom is substituted by a hydroxyalkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl-aryl group. The invention also relates to method for the production of said components by reacting oleofinically unsaturated acid anhydrides B and hydroxyamines C and to the utilization of the inventive components for the formulation of binders.

  • Publication number: 20060178498
Abstract: The invention relates to water-dilutable alkyd resins ABC containing unsaturated fatty acids C, which are bonded by means of ester groups to graft copolymers AB containing hydroxyl groups, wherein said graft copolymers AB are obtained by grafting a mixture of vinyl monomers B onto alkyd resins A. The invention also relates to a method for the production of said resins and to the utilization thereof as binders for paints.

  • Publication number: 20040181030
Abstract: A water-dilutable polyester resin ABCD having a mass fraction of from 1 to 10% of units derived from unsaturated cocondensed building blocks, an olefinic double bond content of from 10 to 2 000 mmol/kg, and a sulfonic acid group content of from 20 to 300 mmol/kg, modified if desired by copolymerizing olefinically unsaturated monomers in the presence of the polyester resin, a process for preparing them, and their use in particular in one-component coating compositions in combination with amino resin curatives

  • Patent number: 6008291
Abstract: Viscosity-stabilized aqueous polyester dispersions comprising an acid-functional polyester resin a, neutralizing agent b for the polyester resin a, the amount of neutralizing agent being sufficient to convert from 10 to 200% of the amount of substance of acid groups in the polyester resin a into salt groups by means of the amount of neutralizing agents added, the neutralizing agents being selected from ammonia and organic amines and also alkali metal hydroxides and alkaline earth metal hydroxides; if desired, an organic auxiliary solvent, silica in an amount such that the mass of SiO.sub.2 is from 0.1 to 50% of the mass of the polyester resin, and water. The dispersions are useful in coating compositions.

    Inventors: Manfred Weinberger, Johann Billiani
  • Patent number: 5698625
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for preparing water-dilutable, air-drying coating binders based on acryl and vinyl modified alkyd resin emulsions. The latter contain polyoxyalkylene groups introduced via specific (meth)acrylate monomers and are highly suitable as binders for high gloss coating varnishes even without the use of cosolvents.
