  • Patent number: 4914968
Abstract: A pump 11 is provided in a gear-shift mechanism, in particular a boat reversing gear transmission, in order to supply the hydraulically operated friction clutches with pressurized oil. The pump 11 sucks oil through a fine-mesh filter 19 out of the sump 21. The fine-mesh filter 19 is arranged in a separate filter chamber 12 which is connected through a suction pipe 13, 15 to the sump 21 and to the suction side of the pump 11. The two suction pipes are arranged in such a manner with respect to one another that the filter chamber 12 is always filled with oil. A dry running of the pump 11 during starting is avoided in this manner. The fine-mesh filter 19, in the form of a removable filter cartridge 20, allows the flow of oil from the inside thereof to the outside and is arranged for easy access from above.

  • Patent number: 4287973
Abstract: A friction clutch including interleaved compressible friction plates or overlapping conical rings and selectively operable structure effecting engagement thereof. One aspect of the invention relates to the structure for utilizing torque generated between the parts to be clutched for providing the compression force to be applied to the plates or the cone rings. Roller and ramp structure is provided between driving and driven parts responding to torque initially applied to the driving member for generating an axial force which is then applied to the clutch pack compressing structure. The roller has an elongated structure which will permit it to first roll about an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the friction clutch and subsequently slide along its axial length. This structure will prevent or at least considerably reduce the power surges following a complete clutching operation.

  • Patent number: 4176549
Abstract: A hydraulic test stand for testing of shafts, couplings, gears and gear transmission systems. A pair of hydro-units are provided, one of which functions as a pump and the other one of which functions as a motor. Each of the hydro-units has a shaft thereon. A reversible drive motor is provided for driving the shaft of the hydro-unit functioning as a pump. High pressure lines and low pressure lines are connected in circuit with the hydro-units to provide an oil circulation circuit. The setting member has a pair of rotatable shafts thereon interconnected therewith. A driving rotation of either one of the shafts effects a driven rotation of the other shaft so that the torque output on the shaft from the hydro-unit which functions as a motor is included into the power flow consideration of the test stand and is used to drive through the test member the hydro-unit which functions as a pump so that the drive means must then only yet balance out the occurring losses within the system.
