  • Patent number: 5568744
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for manufacturing rolled wire sections and round steel sections in coils from carbon steels or high-grade steels. The arrangement includes a wire production line with a multiple-stand wire mill and a round steel production line with, for example, a multiple-stand round steel mill which branches from a common billet supply line including a billet furnace and a cooling bed, wherein the wire mill and the round steel mill are arranged next to each other. An aftertreatment unit following the production lines includes a coil forming station for round steel sections and for wire sections arranged following one of the two production lines, a transfer device for wire coils to the round steel production line, a coil forming device for wire sections arranged at the end of the wire mill, the coil forming device being followed by a transfer device for wire coils or round steel coils, and a coil conveying and cooling device arranged following one of the two production lines.

  • Patent number: 5263657
Abstract: An arrangement with a coil forming and conveying system for wire or light-section steel, particularly with high coil weights of up to 5 t. The arrangement includes one or more conveying units for supplying the wire and a coil forming and transfer station each following the one or more conveying units. The coil forming and transfer stations include a device for conveying wire coils to an unloading station. The coil forming station and the transfer station form a unit. The transfer station includes a relatively elongated C-shaped hook which is connectable to the coil forming station. The C-shaped hook includes a receiving mandrel adjacent the receiving mandrel for conveying and compacting wire or light-section steel windings placed from the coil forming station onto the receiving mandrel. The hook includes travel gear so as to be movable between the transfer station and the unloading station.

  • Patent number: 5144828
Abstract: A combined, continuously operating high-speed light-section and wire mill composed predominantly of so-called cantilever stands or CL stands with overhung-mounted collars. In the roughing train and in the intermediate train and/or in the finishing train, some rolling mill stands with a modular unti with double-mounted collars are arranged. A CL modular unit of the CL stands with overhung-mounted collars can be exchanged as required against a modular unit with double-mounted collars. The second bearing of the modular unit is arranged in a box stirrup which can be coupled to the gear box of the CL stand. The collar can be assembled and disassembled with an automatically actuated, preferably hydraulically acting quick fixing device which includes piston-cylinder units for clamping and releasing the collar on the shaft in axial and in radial direction. The modular unit is a roll box of sandwich construction with box plates which can be separated from each other.

  • Patent number: 5050418
Abstract: In a bar steel rolling mill with a water-cooling segment upstream of a finishing train for thermomechanical finish rolling, respectively, one group of stands of an intermediate train or of intermediate trains, which is adjusted for rolling a larger finish cross-section than the smallest possible finish cross-section, is transferred to a stand location of the finish train, which has a water-cooling segment directly upstream of it. The finishing train for the smallest possible finished cross-section no longer needs to be refurbished to the larger finish cross-section, rather it is simply replaced by a group of stands from one or several intermediate trains, and rapid change devices are utilized for moving the strands and are all connected with each other by a pair of rails extending parallel to the rolling line up to at least one stand location of the finish train.

  • Patent number: 4375884
Abstract: Apparatus for cooling rolled wire rod consists of a first part which guides the wire rectilinearly and cools it with water, a turn-laying unit which forms the wire into turns and lays the turns in staggerred disposition on a continuously running conveyor, and a second part comprising the conveyor which allows passage of an approximately vertically directed stream of air to the turns and conveys the wire turns to a coil forming station which collects them. In order to provide substantial adaptability to various cooling requirements by means of simple and inexpensive conversion, the two parts are composed of a plurality of modules of the same modular length or an integral multiple of the modular length. A base frame carries the modules and the turn-laying unit is fixed on the base frame in a longitudinally displaceable manner. Thus, the lengths of the first and second parts can be changed, and individual modules or groups can be replaced.

  • Patent number: 4060428
Abstract: A process for forming a ferrous billet into a finished product is disclosed comprising the following steps, in sequence: heating the billet to an appropriate elevated bulk temperature in preparation for rolling; hot rolling the heated billet to produce a semifinished product having an intermediate bulk temperature which is lower than said elevated bulk temperature; cooling the semifinished product to reduce the surface temperature thereof to a level below that of a desired finish rolling bulk temperature; allowing the temperatures of the surface and center portions of the semifinished product to equalize substantially to the level of the desired finish rolling bulk temperature; rolling the semifinished product to a finished product; and, cooling the finished product to an ambient bulk temperature.
