  • Patent number: 8439241
Abstract: The invention is based on the object of improving the detachment of portions of a glass rod to the extent that a very planar, uniform fracture surface is produced. For this purpose, an apparatus according to the invention for detaching portions of glass rods comprises a device for the parallel holding and lateral fixing of a number of glass rods, a scoring wheel holder with a scoring wheel rotatably mounted parallel to the axis of the glass rods, at least one pressing spring for pressing the scoring wheel and the glass rods against one another, a device for guiding the glass rods and the scoring wheel past one another in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the glass rods, a holddown means for pressing against the glass rods, a breaking bar and a breaking beam, the breaking bar being arranged opposite, between the holddown means and the breaking beam.

    Assignee: Schott AG
Inventors: Albert Stangl, Johann Piegendorfer, Martin Zöttl, Michael Kopp
  • Patent number: 7900479
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for treating the ends of glass rods in which glass rods are inserted into receptacles in a carrier and with the carrier are carried past a burner and at least one rail in an advancing direction, the flame of the burner melting at least one end of the glass rods and the glass rods being lifted by the rail in the receptacles and rolling on the rail so that the glass rods are made to rotate during the melting process.

  • Patent number: 7538892
Abstract: In order to provide light guides, in particular in the form of glass rod portions, with improved end faces, the invention provides a method for examining glass rods, in particular light guides, in which the glass rods are arranged in front of two cameras, the cameras recording the end faces from the sides, in two different radial viewing directions with respect to the longitudinal axis of the glass rods, and the planarity and angularity of the contour of the end faces being optically and contactlessly determined with both cameras on the basis of the recordings, and a glass rod automatically being rejected and/or sorted by means of a rejecting/sorting device if there is any deviation of the planarity or angularity of the end faces of the glass rod from a respectively prescribed set range.

  • Patent number: 5350963
Abstract: In order to improve the flexibility of one-piece quartz mounts, the section of the current lead pins that is pinched into a lug and projects beyond the bottom plate is reduced to a web between the bottom plate and the mounting section. The web is bent twice between the bottom plate and the mounting region so that there are formed a horizontal first web section and a second vertical section. The elasticity of the mounts are thereby further improved. The mounting section can be trimmed in the zone where the quartz disk is mounted.
