  • Patent number: 6044319
Abstract: A process for reducing yaw during braking in a vehicle having an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traveling on a roadway having different coefficients of friction on opposite sides of the vehicle comprises regulating the braking pressures in the wheels of the vehicle during ABS-controlled braking so that a permissible braking pressure difference (.DELTA.P) between the braking pressures in the high and low wheels is maintained. The permissible braking pressure difference (.DELTA.P) is calculated by an electronic system based on an algorithm that takes into account the frictional value of the road, and/or the load on the vehicle, and/or the wheel base of the vehicle, and/or the wheel gauge of the vehicle, and/or the level of the center-of-gravity of the vehicle. The algorithm increases the value of the permissible braking pressure difference (.DELTA.P) as the frictional value of the road, the load of the vehicle, and the wheel base of the vehicle increase.

  • Patent number: 5338106
Abstract: A process for braking a vehicle which comprises applying to a front axle group and to a rear axle group front axle brake pressure (p.sub.1) and rear axle brake pressure (p.sub.2) in accordance with wear-optimized curves when a deceleration command signal (S) is less than or equal to a predetermined switch-over deceleration command signal (S.sub.1). When the deceleration command signal (S) is greater than the switch-over deceleration command signal (S.sub.1), the front axle brake pressure (p.sub.1) and the rear axle brake pressure (p.sub.2) are applied in accordance with parabolas which pass smoothly through a point on the wear-optimized curves which corresponds to the switch-over deceleration command signal (S.sub.1), and at least one point on curves for equal adhesion utilization of the front axle group and the rear axle group, which point corresponds to a second deceleration command signal (S.sub.2).

  • Patent number: 5265468
Abstract: An error detection and display system for an apparatus having first and second operating states comprises a testing device, a display unit (e.g., a warning light), and a switch-on control unit. The testing device runs primary error test cycles for detecting errors of a first kind which occur during the first operating state of the apparatus (e.g., a vehicle at standstill), and secondary error test cycles which occur and can be detected only in the second state of the apparatus (e.g., the vehicle moving above a predetermined minimum speed). The system also includes a non-volatile memory wherein all occurrences of errors of the second kind are stored. The switch-on control unit switches on the testing device and the warning light when the vehicle is first started. If no error of the first kind is detected by the testing device and no error of the second kind is stored in the error memory, the switch-on control unit switches off the warning light while the vehicle is still at a standstill.

  • Patent number: 5251966
Abstract: A method for the braking of a vehicle train with pressure-actuated brakes and arrangements for performing this method are disclosed. The prior art shows that, because of a different rapid build-up of a braking pressure in the various rigid vehicles of a vehicle train, there occurs an overrun shock during adjustment transition shifting braking phases. According to one embodiment of the invention, there is furnished a lead and predominance by a predetermined value in the co-braking signal furnished from the one rigid vehicle to the second rigid vehicle of a vehicle train. According to a further embodiment, a predominance by a predetermined amount in the braking pressure in the second vehicle versus the co-braking signal is furnished, if during the preceding brake application actuation the overrun shock has surpassed a preset tolerance width. The invention can be applied in particular for vehicle trains made up of a motor vehicle and one or several trailers or semitrailers.

  • Patent number: 5187977
Abstract: An apparatus for the recognition of a rising slope is provided in particular for commercial vehicles, such as trucks or busses. The device comprises at least one sensor (1) for the axle load of the rear axle and/or of the front axle, as well as a device (4) for measuring the vehicle acceleration relative to the road. The signals of the sensor (1) and of the device (4) are fed into an electronics (2). The electronics (2) recognizes from these fed-in data, whether the vehicle is disposed on an uphill grade or on a downhill grade or on level ground. The thus generated signal can be further employed in various electronic systems, for example, in an automatic drawbar force control system.

  • Patent number: 4962690
Abstract: A relay valve unit having a control pressure communication line for the relay valve equipped with a reducer unit so that when activating the relay valve, any delay is either non-existent or negligibly larger than would be required for the complete opening of the relay valve.

  • Patent number: 4887636
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously controlling an electrically-actuated solenoid valve which regulates the fluid pressure conveyed to a brake cylinder. The solenoid valve is designed for intermittent operation. A pressure transducer senses and generates an actual value signal, which is proportional to the pressure to be regulated. A set value generator produces a select set value signal. A comparator device generates a pulse-type control signal having a variable width repetition rate within a certain pressure range for the solenoid valve in accordance with the difference between the actual value signal and the set value signal.

  • Patent number: 4671578
Abstract: A fluid pressure responsive brake system for the trailer of a vehicle. The brake system includes a trailer supply circuit, which can be connected with the supply circuit of the tractor and which can be connected with an electrical trailer brake circuit, which is connected with the brake system emitting electrical brake signals and the electrical feed of the tractor. There is an electro-fluidic switching apparatus with an OR circuit, by means of which and in connection with an electronic control unit of the trailer, the brakes of the trailer are set if the trailer brake system is separated from the supply circuit of the tractor and/or from the electrical brake signals or the power supply of the tractor.

  • Patent number: 4316641
Abstract: An improved vehicle wheel anti-lockup brake control system in which a shutdown signal is generated to disable the wheel anti-lockup control system in the event of a malfunction, as determined by the concurrent presence of a wheel slip signal and a low wheel speed signal (generated by the same wheel) for a predetermined period of time sufficient to allow a normally operative anti-lockup control system to correct a slipping wheel before it locks up.
