  • Patent number: 4554754
Abstract: A face frame for a flexible sign panel the frame having four side members arranged in a generally rectangular shape, each side member having outer walls forming a partial enclosure, channel walls located within the enclosure provided by the outer walls defining a channel having an axis directed with a vector lying from the rear to the front of said frame and a channel opening, a bearing wall adjacent the channel opening, tensioning clamps to grip the edge of the flexible panel, the tensioning clamps fitting within the channel walls so that the clamps may be slid into and out of the channel walls, and, adjustment screws extending from the bearing wall to engage portions of the tensioning clamps for forcing the clamps into the channel to tension the flexible sign panel.

  • Patent number: 4547987
Abstract: An intermediate frame for a sign box of the type having a first hinging member around its perimeter, and having an outer face frame for supporting a face panel, the intermediate frame having a generally rectangular construction with two ends, and a top and bottom joining at corners, each of them having an outer wall, a face panel support connected with the outer wall and extending inwardly, for supporting a face panel, a first hinging portion connected to the outer wall, and extending in a rearward direction for hinging interengagement with the first hinging member on the sign box, a second hinging member connected to the outer wall, and extending in a forward direction, to receive a second hinging portion carried on the outer face frame. Also included are a series of face frames for supporting a panel of flexible sign material, and panel tensioning members for use therewith. Such face frames may be hingedly mounted to a sign box, fixed to a vertical structure, and retrofitted to an existing sign box.

  • Patent number: 4516343
Abstract: An intermediate frame construction for use in association with a sign box of the type having a box hinge recess around its perimeter and a front frame for supporting a face panel, the front frame having a front hinge, the intermediate frame comprising, a generally rectangular frame having two end members, and top and bottom members, joining one another at corners, each of the members having an outer wall, face panel support connected with the outer wall and extending inwardly for supporting a face panel therein, an intermediate hinge connected to the outer wall, and extending in a rearward direction for hinging interengagement with the box hinge recess in the sign box, and, a wall defining an intermediate hinge recess connected to the outer wall, and extending in a forward direction, and adapted to receive the front hinge carried on the front frame whereby such front frame is hingedly connected to such intermediate frame, and such intermediate frame is in turn hingedly connected to such sign box.

  • Patent number: 4287555
Abstract: An electrical raceway for installation in an illuminated double-sided sign box is in the form of an elongated and hollow structure which provides reinforcement for such a sign box and a housing for electrical conductors. Opening zones, usefully in the form of knock-out discs are provided in the side walls of the raceway for the mounting of lighting fixture receptacles while aligned openings in such side walls are provided for the disposition therethrough of an elongated lighting tube terminally fitted in receptacles on a pair of such raceways disposed on opposite sides thereof. Deformable tongues formed in such side walls at such openings can be bent toward the opposite side walls to provide barrier members to prevent the electrical conductors within such a raceway coming into contact with a lighting tube extending therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4240130
Abstract: An electrical raceway for installation in an illuminated sign box of the type having a translucent sign panel is in the form of an elongated and hollow structure which provides reinforcement for such a sign box and a housing for electrical conductors. Such raceway has two series of knock-out discs for mounting both left-handed and right-handed lighting fixture receptacles. When such raceways are installed in a sign box, the lighting fixture receptacles can be mounted so that the lighting tubes extend between two such raceways completely across one of the series of knock-out discs in each such raceway thereby improving the overall illumination of the translucent sign panel, and reducing the patches of varied light intensity.

  • Patent number: 4169327
Abstract: A sign structure comprises a housing with linear extrusion side members interconnected and separated by curved corner members which are telescopically received in the ends of those side members. A front panel or frame for such a sign is similarly formed from linear extrusion frame members interconnected and separated by curved frame corner members, the various frame members being co-extensive in elevation with the corresponding housing members. Forwardly facing channels are formed along the front edges of the housing side members for receiving rearwardly projecting J-shaped flanges provided on the linear frame members, such flanges being retained in position by screws. Any of the J-shaped flanges can rotate in its housing channel to permit the front panel to be hinged open when the screws along all the other edges are loosened to allow the other J-shaped flanges to leave their housing channels.
