  • Publication number: 20150381322
Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for operating a client device to communicate with a wireless access point to validate data within a frame by comparing channel quality metrics and duration metrics to thresholds. Information received within a validity window may be treated as correctly received even if the frame fails a subsequent verification process or if reception of the frame is terminated prior to the end of the frame.

  • Patent number: 9225495
Abstract: Techniques for supporting communication in dominant interference scenarios are described. In an aspect, communication in a dominant interference scenario may be supported with cross-subframe control. Different base stations may be allocated different subframes for sending control information. Each base station may send control messages in the subframes allocated to that base station. Different base stations may have different timelines for sending control messages due to their different allocated subframes. With cross-subframe control, control information (e.g., grants, acknowledgement, etc.) may be sent in a first subframe and may be applicable for data transmission in a second subframe, which may be a variable number of subframes from the first subframe. In another aspect, messages to mitigate interference may be sent on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH).

  • Patent number: 9179300
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for using a Media Access Control (MAC) address of a station (STA) sending a direct link multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission such that one or more STAs receiving the transmission may interpret a group identifier (ID) indicating a group to which the STAs belong. Using the group ID and the MAC address allows a STA to independently manage its group IDs, independent of an access point (AP) or other STAs in a Basic Service Set (BSS).

  • Publication number: 20150304148
Abstract: Methods, systems, and/or devices are provided that permit data transmissions over unused television channels. A method operational in a receiver device, includes monitoring one or more repurposed channels within a television broadcast frequency spectrum for data waveforms, wherein waveforms of different bandwidths coexist within the one or more repurposed channels, and at least a larger waveform has a first bandwidth larger than a channel bandwidth for each repurposed channel. The method also includes receiving a waveform over a repurposed channel from among the one or more repurposed channels, wherein the received waveform has a second bandwidth smaller than the channel bandwidth. The method further includes processing the received waveform by applying a downclocking factor to a clock of the receiver device that causes the receiver device to process the received waveform according to the second bandwidth to obtain a data payload from the received waveform.

  • Patent number: 9124318
Abstract: An access point can include an array of antennas and a smart antenna selector. The smart antenna selector is configured to select a subset of antennas from the antenna array for use in multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU MIMO) data transmissions. Stations that are communicatively coupled to the access point can be selected for inclusion in a multi-user group based, at least in part, on performance measurements of the stations. Performance measurements are determined directly and indirectly from data transmissions sent in response to sounding packets. Antennas for use in MU MIMO data transmissions are selected for the antenna array based, at least in part, on previous antenna selections used for single user data transmissions.

  • Patent number: 9112741
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are proposed for supporting one or more user-dependent channel state information (CSI) feedback rates in a downlink spatial division multiple access (SDMA) system. For certain aspects, an access point (AP) may receive a channel evolution feedback from one or more stations and send a request for CSI to the stations whose CSI values need to be updated. For certain aspects, the AP may poll the stations for updated CSI values. For certain aspects, deterministic back-off timers may be assigned to the stations indicating when to send their CSI feedback. The proposed methods may improve system performance.

  • Publication number: 20150230187
Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for controlling the transmit power of an uplink (UL) signal from a user terminal in a wireless communications system in an effort to achieve some target characteristic, such as a target carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio, at an access point (AP) are provided. In this manner, such a user terminal may help avoid or compensate for imbalances in received radio frequency (RF) power between UL signals received from multiple user terminals by the AP. For example, the transmit power at each user terminal may be controlled in an effort to achieve a target post-processing C/I ratio of 28 dB per spatial stream in an effort to reduce large power imbalances and optimize throughput per user terminal. The user terminal and the AP may compose part of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system utilizing spatial-division multiple access (SDMA) techniques.
