  • Patent number: 6848714
Abstract: The invention relates to an airbag module for motor vehicles, comprising an inflatable airbag (12) and a deflection pocket which is arranged in the region of an inflow opening of the airbag and which consists of at least two material layers, of which a lower layer (16a) has a flow-through opening (18) which is aligned with the inflow opening and is at least partly covered over by an upper layer (16b), and is secured at a holder element (22) for the airbag, with the upper layer being connected region-wise to the lower layer for forming radial gas propagation paths (24) for gas flowing via the deflection pocket into the airbag.

  • Publication number: 20030047926
Abstract: In a method for the folding of an inflatable airbag, the airbag mouth of the airbag is fastened to a carrier and a plunger is advanced through an opening provided in the carrier and through the airbag mouth into the airbag and against a front wall of the airbag. The carrier and the plunger are subsequently pressed into a cover of an airbag module together with the airbag. A plunger provided with prongs at its front end is used in folding, with the prongs being led through components of the airbag such that only one single layer of the front airbag wall is located between the front ends of the prongs and the base element.

  • Patent number: 6361067
Abstract: An airbag which is provided with an airbag mouth (16) for connection to a gas generator has in the interior of the airbag a deflection device (18) in the region of the airbag mouth (16) which at least partly laterally deflects a gas flow which emerges from the airbag mouth (16).

  • Publication number: 20020005639
Abstract: An airbag has in the interior in the region of the airbag mouth a deflection device by means of which the gas flow which enters into the interior of the airbag is deflected laterally.

  • Publication number: 20020005631
Abstract: An airbag module (10) for a motor vehicle comprising a housing (12); a door (14) having a pivot axis (22) and a tear line (20), and normally closing the housing; an inflatable airbag cushion (16) positioned in the housing; and an inflator (18) for inflating the airbag cushion; wherein the pivot axis extends around at least a portion of the outer circumference of the door; wherein the door comprises at least three portions (26) which are defined by the tear line; and wherein the tear line comprises at least three lines (32) each of which extend radially outwards from substantially the center of the door. Reduces the risk of the door encountering an obstruction on actuation of the airbag module.

  • Patent number: 6260330
Abstract: A method for the folding of an airbag for motor vehicles which comprises the steps that an airbag to be folded is fixed in a housing with its closed end at an upper part of the housing and is fastened with its open end at a base element lying opposite to the upper part in such a manner that the base element seals off the interior of the airbag against the inner space of the housing; that the housing and the base element are moved relative to one another; and that the pressure within the airbag and/or the housing is varied during the relative movement. An apparatus for the folding of an airbag, in particular for carrying out the folding method in accordance with the invention.
