  • Patent number: 5433599
Abstract: A ceramic burner for a hot blast stove has a central gas duct that opens into the central zone of a burner crown and side air ducts on both sides of the gas duct which also open into the central zone. To improve combustion characteristics, there is a central air duct in the gas duct opening out within it. Air is supplied to the central air duct in an upward flow which exits in two opposing directions through side openings.

  • Patent number: 4439049
Abstract: A temperature scanner for use in a hot strip rolling mill to enable ready determination and analysis of the temperature distribution over a hot strip of material passing through the mill. The temperature scanner comprises a photocell scanner unit 1, situated over and scanning a strip 2 perpendicular to its direction of travel, electronic analyzer 6 connected to the scanner unit via lead 5 and displayer 7 connected to the analyzer 6 by lead 8. The analyzer 6 compares the temperatures detected with a reference level set and together with the displayer 7 displays a map of the strip surface in which areas at temperature above the reference level are distinguished from those below the reference level. Alternatively, one or more temperature profiles corresponding to one or more scans of the surface are displayed, in which temperatures above the reference level are distinguished from those below the reference level.

  • Patent number: 4436508
Abstract: A ceramic burner for gas, for a combustion chamber of a hot-blast stove of a blast furnace, has parallel vertical supply ducts for the two combustion components (gas and air). A first one of said ducts opens upwardly at a first outlet which is substantially oblong in plan view and the second of said ducts opens at a plurality of second outlets which are located on either side of and above the first outlet, the general discharge directions of the second outlets being oblique to that of the first outlet. In order to provide improvement in the mixing and homogenisation of the combustion components, the first outlet has, as seen in plan view, a slot shape and has, in its long sides, a plurality of recesses which extend outwardly towards the second outlets. The second outlets are arranged alongside the said long sides of the first outlet with the second outlets on one side opposite those on the other side.
