  • Patent number: 9314991
Abstract: A method of making an elastic laminate (10) comprising the steps of providing an intermediate elastic/fabric laminate (16) and segmenting the fabric layer (30) into fabric segments (31) by forming interruptions (32) which extend through the fabric thickness. The interruption-forming step comprising cutting/slitting/scoring the fabric layer (30) to form proximal/distal regions (33/34) of the interruptions (31) and incrementally rupturing the fabric layer (30) to form the remaining distal/proximal interruption region (34/33).
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 19, 2016
    Assignee: Avery Dennison Corporation
Inventors: Robert Ceusters, Johannes H. A. De Jong
  • Publication number: 20100221496
Abstract: A stretchable laminate (10) comprising at least one nonelastic fabric layer (20/30) and an elastic layer (40) laminated thereto. The fabric layer(s) (20/30) have interruptions (22/32) formed therein which extend 10% to 99% through the layer thickness thereby rendering the laminate (10) stretchable. The stretchable laminate (10) can be incorporated into a diaper component, or it can serve as an intermediate laminate in a method for making an elastic, or more elastic, laminate.

  • Publication number: 20040165944
Abstract: An attachment/detachment fastening system comprising a backing, an adhesive on one side of the backing, and a weakened joint in the backing whereby the backing is foldable and tearable along the weakened joint. The backing and adhesives for the fastening system are chosen based on the end application. Suitable backing materials include polymers, papers, and metal foils. Suitable adhesives include pressure-sensitive adhesives and heat-set adhesives. The weakened joint may be formed by mechanical means, such as scoring, slitting, or perforating the backing, or by chemical means such as acid dripping or etching. The fastening system of the present invention is useful in various applications, including joining together products for shipping and sale, e.g., attaching a promotional product to a product to be sold, and as tamper-evidence labels.

  • Patent number: 6765123
Abstract: A continuous process for manufacturing a multilayered wound dressing including an apertured wound contact layer, an absorbent material layer and a backing layer, including (a) providing a substantially continuous first web comprising the wound contact layer and a first process release liner; (b) forming a plurality of apertures through the wound contact layer; (c) applying the absorbent material layer to the wound contact layer; (d) laminating a substantially continuous web of the backing layer over the absorbent material layer to form the composite web; and (e) cutting individual multilayered wound dressings from the composite web.
