  • Patent number: 6217471
Abstract: A drive belt for a continuous variable transmission includes at least one endless metal band, preferably provided in a set of nested bands, at least partly being surrounded by transverse elements for at least clamping the belt in between the sheaves of a set of pulleys. At least one band is shaped such, as seen in cross section, that the arithmetical relation between thicknesses TA, TB and TC at three points PA, PB, PC on a contact face, given by the formula (1−(TA+TB)/2TC) represents a value greater than 0.001 and smaller than 0.100, wherein points PA, PB and PC are indicative of a substantially transverse line relative to the longitudinal direction of the band, wherein point PC is located between PA and PB, wherein points PA and PB are located near the edge of the band.

  • Patent number: 6106420
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission and a drive train having a continuously variable transmission. The transmission is provided with a drive pulley and a driven pulley, each having at least one axially displaceable disc in order to be able to pinch an endless transmission element between the discs of a pulley, the transmission being controlled, at least during full movement of the pulleys, in such a way that the pinching force of the drive pulley is dependent on the pinching force applied to the transmission element via the secondary pulley, and the pinching force applied being determined, at least in part, as a function of a torque which is to be transmitted. The transmission is adapted in such a manner that, at least while the pulleys are at a standstill or during the initial revolutions of the driven pulley, prior to the abovementioned method of control during full movement, the transmission is controlled in a different way which effects the presence of pinching force in the primary pulley.

  • Patent number: 6045474
Abstract: A drive belt for a continuously variable transmission having belt discs having an at least partially conical contact surface for enclosing a drive belt between pairs of said discs, which drive belt to this end comprises one or more transverse elements provided with converging side faces intended to come into contact with the contact surface of a belt disc and wherein one or more side faces possess a surface which has protuberances providing a profile, which surface has therein contact faces, defined by the protuberances, for coming into contact with the contact surface of a belt disc, wherein the profile is shaped such that on cross-sectioning parallel to the side face concerned, or after wear of the profile at or down to a level which is located at least thirty percent and at most seventy percent of the profile height beneath the initial profile height, the surface area effectively available for coming into contact with the contact surface of a belt disc lies within the range of forty to sixty percent with r

  • Patent number: 5683318
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for influencing the tension in a drive belt in a continuously variable transmission. According to the invention, the tensions in the drive belt are determined as a function of the speed of the drive belt. For part, parts or the entire range of the possible input speeds of the transmission, the input speed of the transmission is then increased and/or reduced to a desired speed range for the drive belt with an essentially relatively lower tension in the drive belt. The power density, the efficiency and the control range of the transmission can be improved by application of this method.
