  • Patent number: 5105693
Abstract: A machine tool for machining a workpiece (11), the workpiece (11) being fastened to a support (9) which has its bearings in a frame (1) of the machine tool and is rotatable about an axis of rotation (13), while a tool (37) is movable relative to the workpiece (11) by means of a positioning device (35) provided on a carrier (17) of the machine tool. The carrier (17) is movably guided relative to the support (9) along a straight guide (23, 25) of the frame (1) in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation (13) by means of static fluid bearings (19, 21), so that a space easily accessible to an operator is created between the carrier (17) and the support (9) through displacement of the carrier (17). The carrier (17) can be coupled to the frame (1) by means of coupling members (51) provided with bolts (75), a head of each bolt (75 ) forming a piston (73) which can be moved in a cylinder (59), which is hinged to the carrier (17).

  • Patent number: 4836692
Abstract: A shaft support comprising a shaft supported by a radial and an axial static fluid bearing, which shaft is rotatably arranged in a bearing sleeve and is provided with a flange-shaped compensation member, of which a part is situated in a compensation space. The compensation space is connected to a pressure source so that a radially acting resulting force is exerted on the compensation member and the shaft. The shaft support is particularly suitable for use with comparatively accurate bearings having a comparatively high bearing capacity.

  • Patent number: 4644577
Abstract: An X-ray tube comprising a rotary anode which is journalled in a helical-groove bearing is constructed so that the axial median plane of the rotary anode system is approximately coincident with the axial center of the helical-groove bearing. The bearing block for the anode system is connected to the tube base preferably via a connection whose rigidity is adapted to the weight, the geometry and the weight distribution of the anode system. The connection allows for cooling of the bearing block by means of a cooling liquid.

  • Patent number: 4628238
Abstract: A positioning device having a plate-shaped carrier (5) which is displaceable in a horizontal plane and which is journalled on a table (1) and on which is exerted a pressure and tensile force, respectively, by means of at least two translation drives (11, 13). The translation drives (11, 13) are coupled to the carrier (5) by means of horizontally operating static thrust and tensile bearings, respectively (33 to 41, 49), which transfer via a viscous medium in a contactless manner pressure and tensile forces respectively, between the carrier (5) and the translation drives (11, 13). The contactless bearings (33 to 41, 49) are pre-stressed with a force which is larger than the maximum occurring tensile force between the drives (11, 13) and the carrier (5). Thus, a substantially frictionless coupling is obtained between the drives (11, 13) and the carrier (5). This coupling acts at the same time as a guide for the carrier (5).

  • Patent number: 4449834
Abstract: An aerostatic axial thrust bearing comprising a movable part and a stationary part, one of said parts being constructed as a cup-shaped member having an upright wall, a closure member and a bottom which faces the other bearing part and which is formed by a diaphragm having a central opening. The side of the diaphragm facing the other bearing part is shaped so that the bearing gap between the two parts becomes narrower from the central opening in the diaphragm towards its outer edge, and the cup-shaped member having an inlet for the admission of a gaseous pressure medium to the space inside the cup-shaped member. The diaphragm is connected to the upright wall of the cup-shaped member at a location which is situated between the central opening and the outer edge of the diaphragm.
