  • Patent number: 5157087
Abstract: Novel organic peroxides of the general formula ##STR1## wherein p=0 or 1 and n=1, 2, 3 or 4 are described. These peroxides are excellently suitable for use in the preparation of epoxide groups-containing (co)polymers. Also described are shaped objects obtained by using (co)polymers thus modified.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 1991
Date of Patent: October 20, 1992
    Assignee: Akzo N.V.
Inventors: Andreas H. Hogt, John Meijer, Johannes P. J. Verlaan
  • Patent number: 4855428
Abstract: Organic peroxides having at least one carbon-carbon double bond, e.g. 2-t-amylperoxy-4,6-diallyloxy-1,3,5-triazine, and the use of such organic peroxides as cross-linking agents for polymers are disclosed. The organic peroxides of the current invention allow polymer cross-linking at elevated temperatures. The disclosed organic peroxides are especially useful in processes for cross-linking polymers and co-polymers of ethylene.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 1987
Date of Patent: August 8, 1989
    Assignee: Akzo N.V.
Inventors: Johannes P. J. Verlaan, Wilhelmus M. Beijleveld
  • Patent number: 4833209
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a process for cross-linking polymers, e.g. polyethylene, or degrading polymers, e.g. polypropylene, using peroxides having at least one carbon-carbon double bond in the molecule, e.g. 1-(t-butyl peroxy isopropyl)-3-isopropenylbenzene.Incorporation of the peroxides into the polymer may be carried out at relatively high temperatures without the risk of premature decomposition of the peroxide, thus allowing easy processability of the polymer mass prior to cross-linking or degradation. The polymeric end products obtained are odorless and do not display blooming.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 28, 1988
Date of Patent: May 23, 1989
    Assignee: AKZO N.V.
Inventors: Wilhelmus M. Beijleveld, Johannes P. J. Verlaan
  • Patent number: 4808442
Abstract: A composition is disclosed which is especially suitable for use in the pretreatment of polymers that have to be cross-linked with a radical forming cross-linking agent. The resulting shaped, cross-linked products display excellent surface properties. The composition contains a finely divided, film forming polymer, e.g. polyethylene, a finely divided rubber filler, e.g. silanized clay, and an organic peroxide, e.g. dicumyl peroxide.

    Filed: December 30, 1986
Date of Patent: February 28, 1989
    Assignee: Akzo NV
