    Abstract: There is provided a zeolite bound zeolite catalyst which does not contain significant amounts of non-zeolitic binder and a process for converting hydrocarbons utilizing the zeolite bound zeolite catalyst. The catalyst comprises first zeolite, crystals, a binder comprising second zeolite crystals and a hydrogenation/dehydrogenation metal. The zeolite bound zeolite catalyst is prepared by converting the silica binder of a silica bound aggregate containing the first crystals of said first zeolite and at least a portion of the hydrogenation/dehydrogenation metal to said second zeolite. The zeolite bound zeolite catalyst has excellent performance when used in hydrocarbon conversion processes such as naphtha reforming and xylenes isomerization/ethylbenzene conversion.

    Abstract: A process for isomerizating a feed containing alkylaromatic hydrocarbons, e.g., monocyclic alkylaromatic hydrocarbons and/or bicyclic alkylaromatic hydrocarbons. The process is carried out by contacting the feed under conversion conditions with a zeolite bound zeolite catalyst which comprises first crystals of an intermediate pore size first zeolite and a binder which comprises second crystals of a second zeolite. The process finds particular applications in isomerizing a feed containing ethylbenzene and less than equilibrium amounts of xylenes with ethylbenzene and can produce a product containing above equilibrium quantities of para-xylene and low aromatics ring loss and xylene loss.

These particles may comprise cylindrical zeolite L crystallites with a mean diameter of at least 0.05 micron in a zeolite L matrix and may be used as catalyst. Also acyclic hydrocarbons are dehydrocyclized and/or isomerized by contacting them at a temperature of from 370.degree. C. to 600.degree. C. with this catalyst incorporating at least one Group VIII metal having dehydrogenating activity to convert at least part of the acyclic hydrocarbons into aromatic hydrocarbons.
