  • Patent number: 8714830
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit which has an outer ring, one or two inner rings and load-transmitting rolling elements arranged between the two rings. An orbitally formed shoulder of a wheel hub is provided for the pre-stressing of the wheel bearing unit via the inner ring, and a toothed ring which has an outward-facing radial tooth system is arranged on the inner ring, as is usual in wheel bearing units with all-wheel drive capability. The wheel bearing unit has a small axial width which benefits the handling characteristics of a vehicle by attaching the toothed ring to the orbitally formed shoulder and transmitting the drive torques via this attachment. Welding and a plastically formed tooth system on the orbitally formed shoulder are proposed as examples of such fastening.

  • Patent number: 6688770
Abstract: The invention relates to a protective arrangement with a rolling bearing unit with ABS capability which has a structurally integrated angle transmitter. The angle sensor is connected to a rotatable bearing ring so that it can rotate and has permanent magnet poles for coupling with an external sensor. The invention includes a weak magnetic cover which is located on the rolling bearing unit at a distance from the angle transmitter in such a way that a magnetic shield is formed between the angle transmitter and the environment outside.

  • Patent number: 5764049
Abstract: A wheel bearing with a speed of rotation detection device, in particular for use on a motor vehicle. A sensor supported on the stationary bearing ring is opposite a pulse ring which is connected with and rotates with the rotating bearing ring. The pulse generating ring is developed as a spherical segment, spherical sector, or spherical zone, wherein the center point of its sphere is arranged at the tilt center point of the bearing. The sensor is concentric to the center point of the sphere and is opposite and spaced from the pulse ring by an air gap. The sensor may be concentric with or eccentric to the axis of rotation of the bearing ring. This develops the pulse generating ring and the sensor such that the change in the air that gap occurs as a result of static or dynamic loads on the bearing has no detrimental effect on the quality of the signal.

  • Patent number: 5544962
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for an automotive vehicle, and particularly a vehicle provided with ABS/traction control, includes a wheel bearing that is preferably a two row wheel bearing with the inner ring. A sensor is fixed in rotation with reference to the bearing unit and is supported to the bearing unit. A pulse generating ring is mounted around the sensor and is connected with the rotatable part of the wheel bearing, and particularly with the rotatable inner bearing ring to rotate with the rotatable ring and with respect to the sensor. An additional support bearing is provided for guiding the pulse generating ring and for supporting the pulse generating ring to the sensor to provide a constant air gap between them and to reliably mount the sensor. The additional support bearing is developed as an angular bearing. That angular bearing is prestressed by a spring.

  • Patent number: 5240333
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for vehicles having a speed of rotation detector. An inner ring of the wheel bearing unit is mounted on an axial shoulder of the wheel hub. The inner ring is retained axially by a bead formed by plastic deformation of the rear end of the shoulder. Elevations protrude axially rearwardly around the circumference of the bead. An axial depression into the rear of the hub at the hub axis. The passage of the elevations are sensed by a rotation detector spaced from the rear end of the hub.

  • Patent number: 5069560
Abstract: A ball bearing having a cage which on its opposite axial ends has respective radially inward, obliquely axially outwardly and radially inwardly directed projections and has respective radially outward, obliquely axially outwardly and radially outwardly directed projections. Each projection extends into a cooperatingly placed and shaped annular groove defined in the raceway of the respective inner and outer rings. Each projection and the sealing lip at its end has a lateral surface which is parallel to one of the lateral walls of the groove and is spaced therefrom. The sealing lip has a second, adjacent lateral surface which is parallel to a second adjacent wall of the groove and is spaced therefrom, providing a lengthened sealing slot. The end of the sealing lip rests against a third lateral wall of the groove which extends at least approximately parallel to the bearing axis.

  • Patent number: 5011305
Abstract: Support pins of a locating device for resetting the position of a cage of a sectorial antifriction bearing--if the cage deviates from its specified position. In order to arrange the support pins reliably securely and at low cost on the cage, the cage is constructed as a solid one and is provided with at least one of the pins which extends parallel with the pockets for the rolling elements and which protrudes beyond the width of the cage.
