  • Publication number: 20030042850
Abstract: The invention describes an electroluminescent device wherein the device is characterized by a light emitting layer (3) comprising quantum dots. The quantum dots are provided with capping molecules with functional units on the quantum dot surfaces which cause excited state injection into the quantum dots. The capping molecules with functional units comprise electron transport moieties and/or hole transport moieties and/or exciton transport moieties, which cause the injection of electrons, holes, and excitons, respectively, to the core of the quantum dots.

  • Patent number: 6259524
Abstract: The invention pertains to a calibration layer comprising an optically transparent polymer containing an amount of photobleachable luminscent material present in such a way that the final polymer film contains less than 10 wt. % of luminophore and has an optical attenuation of less than 0.3 absorption units in the wavelength region of interest. The invention further is concerned with a method of calibration of an optical image device, preferably an optical or Raman microscope, by using the decrease in luminescence as the result of photobleaching between two consecutive images for calibration.

  • Patent number: 5776375
Abstract: The present invention provides an electro-optical device comprising NLO polymer in the active layer with improved stability for light in the wavelength range of 600-1600 nm is guided through the device. The present invention is directed to an electro-optical device comprising two cladding layers and an active layer sandwiched between these cladding layers, with the active layer comprising a non-linear optically active side chain polymer with NLO-chromophores having an N-donor-delocated .pi. system-acceptor structure, the N-donor not being bonded directly to alkyl groups. There are two ways to create NLO-chromophores with N-donors which do not have adjacent linear alkyl groups: The first way is to bond one or two aromatic groups. The N-atom is further bonded to the delocated .pi. system. If only one aromatic group is present, the N-atom is, besides the delocated system, further bonded to a hydrogen or deuterium atom.
