Patent number: 11141841Abstract: A folding flex ratchet having a handle that is joined to a ratchet head by an offset hinge that allows the handle to be selectively folded between an extended position for applying greater torque and a folded position in which the ratchet operates in spaces where access is minimal, somewhat like a palm ratchet. The ratchet head may include a generally L-shaped neck that provides an offset handle connection point that is offset in two directions from the ratchet head, both rearwardly and longitudinally. The handle, ratchet head and offset hinge are configured so that, when in the folded position, the handle is approximately centered over the ratchet head and the handle extends substantially parallel to the ratchet head.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2019Date of Patent: October 12, 2021Assignee: TEKTON, INC.Inventors: John A. Amash, Joshua L. Harrison, Kramer A. Doyle

Publication number: 20210276161Abstract: A method for manufacturing hand tools, such as wrenches. The method generally includes the steps of providing a flat stock, cutting the flat stock into the desired two-dimension blank using a laser, and three-dimensionally machining the laser-cut 2D blank into the desired three-dimensional workpiece. The tool may undergo a heating treatment process and a surface treatment process. In the context of a wrench, the blank may be laser cut with a laser beam oriented to cut generally perpendicularly to the plane of the flat stock. After laser cutting, the handle and interface region between the handle and jaw(s) are machined to provide the desired three-dimensional shape. For example, the three-dimensional shape may be selected to provide a comfortable grip even when applying a high level of force. The wrench jaw may have an optimized geometry calculated so that there is no excess material or “over-designed” regions of the jaw. The wrench jaw has internal corners with optimized radii.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2021Publication date: September 9, 2021Inventors: John A. Amash, Codie A. Bhuyan, Ethan D. Fassezke, Benjamin E. Harrison, Devin L. Henige, Laura R. Murphy
