Patent number: 12195167Abstract: A general mounting method for ducted fan propulsors is disclosed. This mounting method uses extremely slender stators that connect the duct ring to the propulsor which is mounted in the middle and drives the rotor, fan or propeller. The slender stators take the form of spokes and as such are so slender that the midspan stresses within the spokes are dominated by axial tension loads rather than the shear loads experienced by conventional stators. The spokes may have an aerodynamic shape and damping methods may be used to retard spoke vibrations and transmission of engine vibrations to the duct and force. The duct itself is also stiffened by the spoke arrangement, thereby reducing low frequency vibration modes.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2023Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Assignee: University of KansasInventors: Ronald Martin Barrett, Lauren Nicole Schumacher, Patrick Ian McNamee, John Austin Haug, Joshua Donald Mudd, Dalton Bastiaan Prins, Nicholas Donald Werner

Patent number: 12018515Abstract: A door latch system includes an exit device having a housing mounted to an unsecured side of a door. A latch assembly is mounted in the housing and includes a latch for releasably securing the door in a door frame. An actuating assembly includes a driving member. A push bar is configured to be received within the housing. Relative movement between the push bar and base plate so as to reduce the distance between the push bar and base plate moves the driving member and latch to release the door from the door frame. A dashpot is connected to the driving member and configured to allow movement of the driving member when the push bar is manually depressed but to resist movement of the driving member when a secure side of the door experiences a high velocity impact. A method of resisting unwanted unlatching of the latch is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2023Date of Patent: June 25, 2024Assignee: Hanchett Entry Systems, Inc.Inventors: John Austin Brennan, Daniel Patrick Van Dusen, Neil Brendan O′Leary, Richard Samuel Kreidel

Publication number: 20240111452Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficiently managing performance among multiple integrated circuits in separate semiconductor chips. In various implementations, a computing system includes at least a first processing node and a second processing node. While processing tasks, the first processing node uses a first memory and the second processing node uses a second memory. A first communication channel transfers data between the first processing node and the second processing node. The first processing node accesses the second memory using a second communication channel different from the first communication channel and supports point-to-point communication. The second memory services access requests from the first and second processing nodes as the access requests are received while foregoing access conflict detection.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2022Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Michael John Austin, Dmitri Tikhostoup

Patent number: 11741917Abstract: Systems and methods for displaying a cursor and a focus indicator associated with real or virtual objects in a virtual, augmented, or mixed reality environment by a wearable display device are disclosed. The system can determine a spatial relationship between a user-movable cursor and a target object within the environment. The system may render a focus indicator (e.g., a halo, shading, or highlighting) around or adjacent objects that are near the cursor. The focus indicator may be emphasized in directions closer to the cursor and deemphasized in directions farther from the cursor. When the cursor overlaps with a target object, the system can render the object in front of the cursor (or not render the cursor at all), so the object is not occluded by the cursor. The cursor and focus indicator can provide the user with positional feedback and help the user navigate among objects in the environment.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2022Date of Patent: August 29, 2023Assignee: MAGIC LEAP, INC.Inventors: John Austin Day, Lorena Pazmino, James Cameron Petty, Paul Armistead Hoover, Chris Sorrell, James M. Patent number: 11714442Abstract: An electronic device includes an accelerated processing unit (APU) and multiple elements. The APU performs operations for a platform boost and throttle (PBT) controller. For the operations, the APU receives a platform electrical power limit, the platform electrical power limit being a limit on a total electrical power allowed to be consumed by a group of the elements at a given time. The APU then determines a present platform electrical power consumption. The APU next adjusts one or more operating parameters for specified elements from among the group of elements to control electrical power consumption by the specified elements based on a relationship between the present platform electrical power consumption and the platform electrical power limit.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2021Date of Patent: August 1, 2023Assignees: ATI Technologies ULC, Advanced Micro Devices Inc.Inventors: Meeta Surendramohan Srivastav, Ashwini Chandrashekhara Holla, Alex Sabino Duenas, Xinzhe Li, Michael John Austin, Indrani Paul, Sriram Sambamurthy
