  • Patent number: 6023456
Abstract: Multi-media networks will require that a data flow be given certain quality-of-service (QOS) for a network connection but pre-negotiation of this sort is foreign to the current data networking model. The real time traffic flow in the data network requires distinct limits on the tolerance to delay, and the variations in that delay. Interactive voice and video demand that the total delay does not exceed the threshold beyond which human interaction is unacceptably impaired. The present invention allows the network to discover the nature of the service for each traffic flow, classifies it dynamically, and exercises traffic conditioning by means of such techniques as admission control and scheduling when delivering the traffic downstream to support the service appropriately.

  • Patent number: 5991956
Abstract: A grip for ergonomic comfort attaches to the handle of a paint brush and has a pistol style grip, the top of which has a pair of v-shaped cradles separated by about 10 cms. These cradles extend from a rear arm and a short front arm. Between the arms, a strap arrangement captures a paintbrush by applying downward force to the brush handle mounted onto the cradles. The strap is secured to a top region of pistol grip, and it is adjustable either by a velcro fastening method or a buckle cleat.

  • Patent number: 5978376
Abstract: A plurality of end devices are coupled via a shared port to an asynchronous network in which traffic is carried in cells. A cell multiplexer is disposed between the devices and the port and is adapted to multiplex cells from the devices to the port in the order in which they are received by the multiplexer. The multiplexer broadcasts cells received from the network to all of the devices. Each said device is allocated a respective VCI so that it can identify its own cells from the broadcast cells.

  • Patent number: 5935092
Abstract: Systems and methods treat plasma carrying contaminants and leukocytes that are capable of entraining contaminants. The systems and methods separate leukocytes from the plasma by filtration, thereby removing contaminants entrained within leukocytes. The systems and methods also add to the plasma a photoactive material and emit radiation at a selected wavelength into the plasma to activate the photoactive material and thereby eradicate the contaminant that is free of entrainment by leukocytes.

  • Patent number: 5923247
Abstract: Faults occurring in a telecommunications system are monitored identifying their time of onset and reporting them to an operator through an interface if they have not cleared within a predetermined interval. Transient faults, which do clear within that interval, are not reported directly, but only if such faults occur more frequently than a predetermined rate. This is determined by establishing a scan interval, and an analysis period equal to a plurality of scan intervals, monitoring the system continuously for the occurrences of faults, and storing their times of occurrence in a store. At the end of each scan interval, the number of occurrences of the fault during the analysis period which ends at the end of the scan interval are counted by a counter. If the number of occurrences of the fault in the analysis period is equal to or greater than a threshold value selected by user input an alarm indicator is activated.

  • Patent number: 5762732
Abstract: The valve of a spare tire (1) has a 1 meter flexible extension to allow easier inflation. The extension comprises a flexible tube (4) having an air-supply adaptor (6) at one end and a tire valve connector (5) at the other end. A cord is inserted within the tube which maintains an open passage for air when the tube is kinked at a bend or is squeezed from load. A finger plate allows comfortable support of the air-supply adaptor when it is pressed against an air-supply nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5678771
Abstract: A chemical distribution system for use with a mobile irrigation system comprising a liquid chemical supply line vertically adjustably supported on the irrigation system and which is in operative communication with a pressurized source of liquid chemical. A liquid chemical distribution line is positioned beneath the chemical supply line between each pair of the drive towers for the irrigation system and which is in fluid communication with a remotely controlled, electrically operated solenoid valve which is in fluid communication with a chemical supply line. A plurality of spaced-apart emitter valves, having a sprinkler associated therewith, are provided on each of the distribution lines with the associated solenoid valve being operated by a control for activating selective distribution lines whereby liquid chemical may be applied to preselected portions of the area over which the irrigation system moves.

  • Patent number: 5597722
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for inactivating pathogens in a body fluid, such as plasma, red cells, platelets, leukocytes, and bone marrow. The present invention minimizes adverse effects caused by the photosensitive agents while retaining the disinfecting activity of such agents and processes. Pursuant to the present invention, prior to irradiating a body fluid including a photoactive drug, the extracellular fluid, which in the case of blood components includes plasma proteins is at least substantially reduced. Additionally, after the irradiation process, the resultant body fluid is prevented from contacting additional extracellular fluid, e.g., plasma proteins, for a predefined period.

  • Patent number: 5356080
Abstract: A water inlet for a linear move irrigation system wherein the water inlet is supported upon a wheeled frame means which travels along the bottom of an irrigation ditch adjacent one side thereof. The water inlet is fluidly connected to the end most support tower by a plurality of jointed pipes arranged such that the water inlet may be raised out of the irrigation ditch at times. The jointed connection of the pipes permits the water inlet to vertically move relative to the support tower to compensate for vertical differences in the irrigation ditch and the cart path upon which the support tower travels.

  • Patent number: 5300738
Abstract: A call registering and indicating device located at an elevator entryway issues a ticket to assist an inattentive or diverted passenger on a floor who overlooks the optical indication of the allocated elevator or forgets the noted indication prior to the arrival of an elevator. A printer and a ticket-issuing device are connected by a control circuit with the elevator group control. After the call entry and upon the call allocation, the printer and the ticket-issuing device are actuated and a ticket is issued the imprint of which indicates the selected destination floor and the allocated elevator.

  • Patent number: 5165374
Abstract: The inlet arrangement comprises two inlet ports for a fuel and air mixture each of which terminates at an orifice openable and closeable by a respective valve. Each inlet port is of a high flow/low swirl type and a mixture of fuel and air which flows through the orifice can be deflected to enable the inlet port to perform as a low flow/high swirl at smaller throttle openings. In one embodiment, flow of mixture through the inlet port can be deflected at low throttle openings by a transverse flow of gas from inlet ducts. In other embodiments, the direction of mixture flow can be varied by members movable into and out of the mixture flow.

  • Patent number: 5074124
Abstract: The apparatus for creating a reduced temperature air surround about a refrigeration type air conditioner. The reduced temperature air surround is interposed between the air conditioner and the environment, ambient temperature air surround. The apparatus for creating the reduced temperature air surround is a water cooling system having mist-spray heads for ejecting a fine particulate water mist into the air surrounding the air conditioner. A valve actuates the mist-spray heads only at those times at which the air conditioner fan is actuated to draw air from the immediate vicinity of the air conditioner and pass that air over the condenser coils of the air conditioner.

  • Patent number: 4735339
Abstract: A retortable, hydraulically solid, sealed package (10) containing a liquid or semi-liquid food product (24) comprises a thermoplastics container (12) formed by a thermo-forming process and a heat-shrinkable thermoplastics closure diaphragm (20). The closure diaphragm is heat-sealed to a rim (18) of the container after the headspace above the product has been evacuated, and is subsequently subjected to external pressure so as to be non-elastically stretched and made to lie wholly in contact with the enclosed product. When retorted (e.g. for sterilization) the package suffers no visible deformation of the container (12), despite the considerable volume shrinkage of the container which may occur. The loss of volume caused by this volume shrinkage is accommodated by a reduction in the concavity of the diaphragm (20) caused by a corresponding heat-induced shrinkage of the diaphragm material.
