  • Patent number: 5147320
Abstract: A catheter affixing and anchoring device including a unitary thermoplastic elastomer pad through which a catheter clasping tunnel is bored to lead a catheter to and through a directional channel. The channel affixes the catheter in a preferred configuration preparatory to anchoring of the device and the catheter assembly to the body of a medical patient by means of a simple procedure and in a manner which allows for easy and repeated cleaning of the insertion site with limited disturbance to the catheter assembly or underlying body tissues. This invention is particularly well suited to use in connection with parenteral infusion, drainage of bodily fluid accumulations and administration of medicaments in liquid form directly to various parts of the body. This invention may also advantageously be used in other applications requiring the infusion of fluids, such as, for example, hyperalimentation.

  • Patent number: 5018855
Abstract: Disclosed is an atomic absorbtion spectrophotometer method and apparatus, for automated real time analysis of an analyte in a continuous process stream. The apparatus comprises a sample arm for delivering a quantity of sample from a sample cup to a sample atomizer. The sample cup is in valved communication with each of a source of fluid sample and a source of wash solution. In a preferred embodiment, the sample cup is additionally in valved communication with a source of a reference control. Additionally disclosed is an easily serviceable sample atomizer, having a tungsten coil heating element removably secured therein.

  • Patent number: 4625725
Abstract: A surgical rasp for scraping and reshaping bones, particularly useful in cosmetic surgery, comprises a handle and a rasp surfaced insert made from a tungsten carbide attached thereto. The tooth pattern of the rasped surface is created by cutting a plurality of substantially parallel grooves into the insert and subsequently cross cutting a plurality of substantially parallel grooves thereto. Further cross-cuts can be made depending on the particular tooth pattern desired. In a preferred embodiment, the teeth so formed have a trapezoidal-shaped face and a trapezoidal-shaped back which are coextensively integral to create a cutting edge. In an alternate preferred embodiment, the teeth so formed are shaped as three-sided truncated pyramids.

  • Patent number: 4446866
Abstract: A microsurgical needle holder comprising a pair of arms which are pivotally mounted to each other, having needle holding jaws moving in opposition to each other in response to handles, at least one of the handles having an integral first handle extension and an attachable second handle extension adapted to receive weights at varying locations within said handle extensions, thereby providing for adjustment of the length and of the weight distribution of the microsurgical needle holder within the hand of the microsurgeon.

  • Patent number: 4316971
Abstract: An EPM or EPDM type of elastomer is modified by graft copolymerization with acylic ester type of monomeric material, said monomeric material being material whose homopolymer has a glass transition temperature of not greater than 6.degree. C., in an amount sufficient to provide an ester group (--COO--) content of from 25 to 40% by weight, to yield a mixed copolymerizate vulcanizable to a heat and oil resistant elastomeric state.
