  • Patent number: 6550177
Abstract: The present invention is a Hackle Grabber which is a fly tying tool used to assist in the clasping and wrapping of materials, such as hackle feathers, peacock herl, tinsel strips, lead wire, and other materials, on the shanks of hooks used for constructing fishing flies. The design of the tool will allow the materials to be wrapped about the shanks of hooks without imparting a twist in the materials each time a wrap is made. The tool is comprised generally of a set of tubes, a spring restrained projectable metal ball, and a rotating handle, all combined so that the metal ball can be made to clasp feathers or small strings of material against one end of a tube, and the tool can itself rotate and wrap the material around a shank without imparting a twist in the material.
