  • Patent number: 4621744
Abstract: Three hinged flaps of a plastic container closure are molded while in open positions and, during molding of the flaps, an elongated tear-away strip is formed along the front edges of the flaps and is integrally connected to the flaps by tearable webs. After the newly molded flaps have first been closed, the strip is anchored releasably to the top panel of the closure and prevents the flaps from opening during shipment of the container, the strip also serving as a visual indicator that the seal of the closure is intact. The closure is opened by lifting and pulling on the strip to tear the latter completely away from the top panel and the flaps and to free the flaps for swinging to open positions. The absence of the strip or the presence of a partially torn strip indicates that tampering has occurred and that the seal may not be intact.

  • Patent number: 4471881
Abstract: Lugs secure the mounting leaf of a plastic hinge within an inwardly offset recess formed in the upper lip portion of a metal container body. Flexible hinge straps are molded integrally with the mounting leaf and support a cover on the body for swinging between open and closed positions. In one embodiment, the cover is made of plastic and is molded integrally with the hinge straps. In a second embodiment, the cover is made of metal and is secured to a second mounting leaf which is molded integrally with the hinge straps.

  • Patent number: 4361250
Abstract: The hinged flap of a plastic container closure is molded while in an open position and, during molding of the flap, hinged strips with depending pins are formed along the sides of the flap and are integrally connected with the flap by tearable webs. After the flap has first been closed, the pins are anchored to the top of the closure and prevent the flap from opening during shipment of the container. Initial opening of the flap is effected by swinging the flap upwardly with a substantial force to tear the webs and separate the webs from the strips and the anchor pins, the torn webs providing a visual indication that the flap has been opened.

  • Patent number: 4098421
Abstract: A container for snuff includes a cup-shaped body and a cup-shaped cover both molded of plastic. When the cover is telescoped onto the body, an inwardly projecting rib on the cover snaps past an outwardly projecting rib on the body and then presses against the body to hold the cover releasably on the body while establishing a seal between the cover and the body.
