  • Publication number: 20120101749
Abstract: Systems and methods for visualization of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployments are disclosed. A status associated with communications towers or metering devices in an AMI deployment can be monitored based on alarms generated by a metering vendor system or based on thresholds specified in the AMI operations database. A user interface can be generated that allows the AMI deployment to be visualized, with status indicators associated with statuses overlaid on a map. The user interface can further facilitate visualization of progress of tasks associated with AMI operations.

  • Publication number: 20110040889
Abstract: Network traffic is distributed between a plurality of networked computers. The traffic comprises requests that are received into the network and replicated to each computer. For each request, each computer makes a decision based on attributes of the request as to whether to process or ignore the request, such that each request is processed by only one computer. Each computer periodically broadcasts a signal to each of the other computers to confirm that it is online. When a first computer is no longer online, the traffic is redistributed amongst the remaining online computers, wherein traffic that is already processed by the remaining computers is not redistributed, traffic that would have been processed by the first computer is split evenly between the remaining computers, and each computer decides independently and identically how to redistribute the traffic without communicating with the other computers.

  • Patent number: 7823174
Abstract: A method and apparatus for content substitution, consistent with certain embodiments of the present invention involves receiving data representing one or more macroblocks of content, the data having at least first and second packet identifiers (PIDs) associated with first and second portions of content. The content having the first PID is placed into a data stream. An initiation flag is received indicating initiation of a PID mapping operation. The substitute macroblocks of content having the second PID is then mapped to the first PID and the mapped content is placed into the data stream. A termination flag is received indicating termination of the PID mapping operation at which point the process returns to placing content having the first PID into the data stream. The content substitution process can be used to replace advertisements, provide multiple plots, multiple endings, multiple views as well as other applications.

  • Publication number: 20100070625
Abstract: Data files are supplied to a plurality of requesting stations (102 to 106) by accessing serving devices (109 to 116). A plurality of requests are received for one or more data files at a traffic management system (101) from requesting stations via an external network (107). A specific server is selected at the traffic management system and a request is issued to the selected server over a local network for the requested file. The requested file is accepted at the traffic management system from the selected server over the local network and the requested file is sent from the traffic management system to the requesting station over external network. The response of selected servers is monitored (302) when responding to issued requests thereby generating monitored responses. The monitored responses are compared (303) against an operational criterion to identify sub-standard operations.

  • Patent number: 7523178
Abstract: Failures are tolerated in an environment in which a plurality of traffic management systems are coordinated to manage the supply of data to and from a plurality of clients via a plurality of network addresses. Each functional traffic management system is responsible for at least one network address, and each functional traffic management system periodically transmits a signal to each of the other traffic management systems to confirm functionality. Each of the traffic management systems creates and maintains configuration data that specifies the responsibility of traffic management systems for network addresses dependent upon the status of each of the traffic management systems. Each of the traffic management systems responds to a failure of any of the traffic management systems by taking responsibility for certain network addresses as prescribed by the configuration data.

  • Patent number: 6924953
Abstract: An arbitration and data source selection mechanism arbitrating access to a shared communication port between a servo engine and a controller of a disc drive is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the arbitration and data source selection mechanism, the shared communication port, the servo engine and the controller collectively share a common die of an application specific integrate circuit (ASIC). Servo control code and control code are each loaded into the ASIC for operation of the disc drive. The servo engine is allowed to hold service of the shared serial port dedicated to the servo control code for any length of time required by the servo engine. During periods of non-use by the servo control code, the servo engine releases the shared serial port to the controller for dedicated use by the control code, for a predetermined period of time.
