Patent number: 8555754Abstract: A tool, such as fixed-joint pliers, has first and second levers which are movably joined. The levers are joined at a joint comprising a housing and a coupler. The housing is defined by a first housing portion of the first lever and a second housing portion of the second lever. The housing has an interior area which houses a biasing member, such as a torsion spring. The coupler may comprise first and second bushings which extend through a passage through the housing and the torsion spring therein, and a male fastener which extends through one of the bushings and into engagement with the other bushing. The pliers have a thin profile and are biased to an open position for use.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2010Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: JS Products, Inc.Inventors: Chungeng Chen, John A. Hermann

Patent number: 6267029Abstract: An improved design for an adjustable wrench and a method for making the same are disclosed. One embodiment of the disclosed wrench includes a main body which includes a handle, upper jaw, and an attachment portion such as a groove. The lower jaw of the wrench, which contains two ribs with threaded surfaces, is slipped over the attachment portion. The threaded surfaces of the ribs are made to meet with the threads on a thumbwheel, thus allowing the distance between the upper and lower jaws to be varied by turning the thumbwheel. Because the lower jaw slips over the attachment portion of the main body, the disclosed wrench can be manufactured with reduced expense. Moreover, this configuration provides for increased stability because the ribs of the lower jaw contact the thumbwheel at two points.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2000Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: John A. Patent number: 4327061Abstract: A method of stabilizing wet process phosphoric acid containing acid soluble impurities preparatory to solvent extraction for the recovery of valuable minerals. The acid is introduced into a vessel containing crystal seed bed of the impurities. A portion of the acid then is withdrawn and concentrated to effect supersaturation of the impurities contained therein. The supersaturated acid is returned to the vessel to mix with the remaining solution and cause additional impurities to precipitate. Thereafter, a portion of the solution, containing precipitated impurities, is withdrawn and introduced into a separator. In the separator, the solution is separated into an essentially solids-free stream containing unprecipitated soluble impurities and a solids-containing stream.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1980Date of Patent: April 27, 1982Assignee: Kerr-McGee Chemical CorporationInventors: John A.
