  • Patent number: 9459329
Abstract: There is provided a system (100) for magnetic field detection, comprising a fiber optic interrogator (104) adapted to interrogate a first length of optical fiber (102) with interrogating radiation, detect radiation backscattered from said optical fiber and analyze said detected radiation to provide distributed sensing indicative of mechanical disturbances of said optical, wherein the optic fiber is mechanically coupled to a material whose dimensions vary dependent on applied magnetic field. Changes in dimensions of the optic fiber as can be detected by virtue of changes in back-scattering of light from said fiber using the principles of fiber optic distributed acoustic sensing.

  • Patent number: 9435902
Abstract: A method for monitoring for seismic events by interrogating an optic fiber which forms part of an existing communications infrastructure to provide distributed acoustic sensing (DAS). The signals provided by the distributed sensing provide measurements at each of a plurality of discrete portions along the fiber, which may be many tens of kilometers in length. Warning or measurement and consequently prediction of seismic activity can be provided by collecting data over a wide area, without the need to deploy a correspondingly large fiber network.

  • Patent number: 9418262
Abstract: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags will be embedded into materials used to make various items (e.g., garments). Embedded RFID tags will be used to track the manufacturing process, inventory management and verify the authenticity of manufactured goods. RFID tags utilize a standard language (e.g., EPC Gen2 v2, etc.) that distinctly identifies the objects and manufacturers of the items the tags are embedded in. RFID tags also contain memory fields that can be written to from an RFID Interrogator. Containing electronic circuitry and an antenna, RFID tags will activate metal detectors, creating false alarms and neutralizing their usefulness. Techniques are provided for combining a metal detector and a RFID Reader in a single device to enable a security function for differentiating garments and/or accessories with an embedded RFID tag or standalone metal object. This invention applies to all metal detectors, x-ray, and millimeter scanners to include handheld, portable and standalone systems.

  • Patent number: 9347264
Abstract: An apparatus to secure a ladder to a ferromagnetic support such as an exposed ferromagnetic support comprises a pair of bracket clamping assemblies removably attached to a rung on a ladder. The brackets are pivotally bolted to magnet mounts, which each hold a permanent magnet that releasably holds the ladder in place against the support. The apparatus prevents the ladder from slipping, and further serves to hold the ladder at the proper angle for safe use. The apparatus finds particular application where exposed ferromagnetic metal beams are available in the workspace but tying a ladder for safety would be impractical.

  • Publication number: 20160105310
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for deploying disk images. Various common disk images can be examined (e.g., within a data center) to identify a set of blocks that match between multiple, related images (i.e., common blocks). Both the common blocks and different blocks can be stored in a composite disk image. When a request for a machine running a specific production disk image is made, hardware with a pre-cached composite disk image can be located. Rules can be applied to the composite disk image to transform the composite disk image into the requested production disk image.

  • Publication number: 20150372893
Abstract: The detection of network communication problems in networks that have multiple end nodes, and multiple transit nodes in between. One or more of the end nodes monitors one or more flows, creates associated flow information including performance information for each flow, and then reports the flow information. A system then estimates, for each of multiple flows within the network, a likely path that network traffic takes through that network. The system might then use performance information for each of the reported flows to identify at least one candidate problem network entity that is common amongst the estimated paths of the at least the subset of the plurality of flows.
