Patent number: 11290545Abstract: Described herein are method and apparatus for servicing software components of nodes of a cluster storage system. During data-access sessions with clients, client IDs and file handles for accessing files are produced and stored to clients and stored (as session data) to each node. A serviced node is taken offline, whereby network connections to clients are disconnected. Each disconnected client is configured to retain its client ID and file handles and attempt reconnections. Session data of the serviced node is made available to a partner node (by transferring session data to the partner node). After clients have reconnected to the partner node, the clients may use the retained client IDs and file handles to continue a data-access session with the partner node since the partner node has access to the session data of the serviced node and thus will recognize and accept the retained client ID and file handles.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2020Date of Patent: March 29, 2022Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Paul Yuedong Mu, Nam Le, John Hoffmann, John Boyles

Publication number: 20080075150Abstract: A single, common correlation filter (CF) core is provided in a receiver for recovery of data from received code division multiple access (CDMA) signals. Signals are received over CDMA channels with different data rates, where the received signals include user information such as pilot and data symbols that have been spread according to different despreading rates including tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 rates, where tier 1 is the smallest despreading rate. The received signal is correlated at the smallest despreading rate in the correlation filter (CF) by time multiplexing delayed versions of the pseudorandom noise (PN) code. The correlated information is then demultiplexed and pilot-aided QPSK demodulated. The demodulated information is summed at the proper integer multiple of the tier 1 rate to achieve tier 2 and tier 3 despreading rates. According to an embodiment, the three strongest multipaths components in terms of the received power are selected in a window or time period for optimal information recovery.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2007Publication date: March 27, 2008Applicant: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Antoine Rouphael, John Hoffmann, George Nelson, Samir Patel, James Proctor, Daniel Riley

Publication number: 20080019277Abstract: A personal computer's (PC) microprocessor is used to provide both the physical layer (PHY) and media access control (MAC) processing functions required to implement a wireless local area network (WLAN) adapter. This technique uses the polling mechanism associated with the power save (PS) functionality of WLAN protocol to relieve networking stress on the host processing system. It does this while maintaining networking integrity and packet delivery. The WLAN protocol polling mechanism is used to briefly inhibit the transfer of packets from the WLAN access point (AP) during peak periods of network traffic and/or host processor loading. Because the modulation, demodulation, and MAC functions, typically implemented in dedicated hardware on existing adapters are implemented in software running on the host PC microprocessor, other host system processes and applications can interfere with these time critical functions.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2007Publication date: January 24, 2008Applicant: CONEXANT SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Richard Schultz, George Nelson, John Hoffmann

Publication number: 20070189325Abstract: A Station Management Entity (SME) steers a directional antenna for a station to communicate with an Access Point (AP) in an 802.11 protocol system. The SME can steer the antenna before or after an 802.11 station has authenticated and associated with the Access Point. During a passive scan, the steering process cycles through the available antenna positions and monitors an AP beacon signal to determine a best position based on, for example, a Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI). During an active scan where access probing is used, the steering process cycles through the antenna positions and monitors a probe response to determine the best antenna position. Additional scans may be performed based on a decision that the received signal level of the currently selected antenna position has dropped below a predetermined threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2007Publication date: August 16, 2007Applicant: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventors: John Hoffmann, George Nelson, John Regnier, Kevin Johnson

Publication number: 20070121939Abstract: In a communication system comprising a plurality of transmit/receive units (TRUs), a method for embedding a watermark into data includes modifying a carrier signal containing data to embed watermark information. The modified carrier signal is transmitted. A receiver receives the modified carrier signal and extracts the watermark information from the modified carrier signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2006Publication date: May 31, 2007Applicant: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Robert Olesen, Prabhakar Chitrapu, John Kaewell,, Bing Chiang, Richard Herschaft, John Hoffmann, Sung-Hyuk Shin, Alexander Reznik

Publication number: 20070076816Abstract: The present invention provides for making code rate adjustments and modulation type adjustments in a pseudonoise (PN) encoded CDMA system. Coding rate adjustments may be made by changing the number of information bits per symbol, or Forward Error Code (FEC) coding rate. A forward error correction (FEC) block size is maintained at a constant amount. Therefore, as the number of information bits per symbol are increased, an integer multiple of bits per epoch is always maintained. The scheme permits for a greater flexibility and selection of effective data rates providing information bit rates ranging from, for example, approximately 50 kilobits per second to over 5 mega bits per second (Mbps) in one preferred embodiment.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2006Publication date: April 5, 2007Applicant: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventors: John Hoffmann, George Nelson, Daniel Riley, Antoine Rouphael, James Proctor
