Publication number: 20220307262Abstract: A method and apparatus for installing roofing shingles on a roof deck in a top-to-bottom manner is disclosed. Engineered battens am positioned and installed on the roof deck in a bottom-to-top manner. Each batten has a female mating area which allows complementary shingles to be securely attached to the battens by sliding a corresponding mating portion of a shingle into the mating area of the batten resulting in a snap-fit engagement which secures the shingles onto the roof deck without nails. The method and apparatus have several unique advantages, such as allowing shingles to expand and contract (“breathe”) without buckling and/or tearing when the ambient temperature fluctuates. In addition, since the manner of installation is from top-to-bottom, this allows roofers to use the rows of nailed battens as safety scaffolding improving roofers' traction and ultimately enhancing their safety while performing this inherently dangerous job.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 15, 2020Publication date: September 29, 2022Inventor: John HUMPHREYS

Publication number: 20170247751Abstract: The disclosure is directed toward instrumentation/processes for generating multiple datapoints from a sample of multiple comingled labeled biopolymers. In one embodiment, it relates the description of optical approaches used to integrate the samples, the optical approaches used to alter the light path along the “Z” axis perpendicular to the “X” and “Y” axes of a plate containing multiple samples in multiple sample wells and thereby provide greater functionality and the integration of these approaches with purification methods. Alternatively, it provides methods of analyzing beads with multiple labeled nucleic acids attached.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2015Publication date: August 31, 2017Inventor: John A. Humphrey

Patent number: 9057544Abstract: A solar panel mounting system has a plurality of mounting bases which have upper and lower mounting surfaces. In the minimum configuration, four mounting bases are used. A solar panel module is connected to the top portion of two bases and to the bottom portion so that the solar panel module is mounted at a selected angle. Each of the bases has attachment points which hold insert nuts and allows mounting brackets to be secured along the mounting surfaces. The mounting brackets allow the solar panel modules to be clamped utilizing their frames without additional hardware and to be attached from the top without access to the bottom of the panels. The brackets can be industry standard or specific to the system. The bases stack and nest for easy transport. The mounting bases may be secured to a selected surface using ballasts, mechanical attachments or a combination thereof.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2012Date of Patent: June 16, 2015Inventors: Elie Rothschild, John Humphrey, George H. Patent number: 8567132Abstract: A modular solar racking system comprises a plurality of modular solar rack supports that interconnect to provide a portable, non-invasive solar electrical generation system. One embodiment comprises a plastic modular solar rack support having a base portion, a ballast holding portion, a strut and a wedge portion. Supports are interconnected by fitting within grooves in the strut. Uni-strut frames are attached to the supports and solar panels are mounted thereon. In another embodiment, the supports comprise a base portion, a ballast holding portion, a forward lifting portion, a rearward lifting portion and a strut. Again, supports are interconnected by fitting within grooves disposed in the strut. The supports are stackable and are installed on-site using a torque wrench. Ballast may be used to hold the supports down. In one embodiment, a membrane is applied to the bottom surface which is used to adhere the support to a surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2010Date of Patent: October 29, 2013Inventors: Elie Rothschild, John Humphrey, George H. F. Schnakenberg, III
