Abstract: A downhole power system is provided that includes an energy storage adapted to operate at high temperatures, and a modular signal interface device that serves to control the energy storage component as well as offer a means of data logging at high temperatures. The controller is fabricated from pre-assembled components that may be selected for various combinations to provide desired functionality. The energy storage may include at least one ultracapacitor.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for distributed data transmission in an RF mesh network or other data network. An exemplary system includes at least two distribution devices. A first distribution device can receive a first data message that includes a first header and payload data. The first distribution device can determine that the second distribution device is not identified in the first header as receiving the payload data. The first distribution device can generate a second data message based on determining that the second distribution device is not identified in the first header. The second data message includes the payload data and the second header. The second header identifies the second distribution device as being selected to receive the payload data. The first distribution device transmits the second data message to the second distribution device.

Abstract: A method and a device are disclosed including a parallax Graphical User Interface (GUI) software component configured to allow automatic, parallax-type, smooth movement of multiple information panels out of user's view when focus is placed on one of the multiple information panels and the focus information panel is scrolled. When the user scrolls in the opposite direction, the non-focus panels reappear smoothly and automatically and the original user view before scrolling is restored. In various embodiments, search results may be categorized and organized into separate windows, each independently scrollable, which may be viewed using the parallax GUI. In various embodiments, a number of documents and/or software applications used to open such documents, may be registered in a parallax list to allow navigation using the parallax GUI.

Abstract: A system for treating obstructive sleep apnea includes an anchoring element having scar tissue located in an inframandibular region, and a tongue implant having at least one arm extending therefrom, whereby the tongue implant is implantable in a tongue with the at least one arm being connectable with the anchoring element for coupling the tongue implant with the anchoring element. In one embodiment, the anchoring element includes a first implant part such as a flexible layer implantable in the inframandibular region and the scar tissue is formed on, in, and/or around the first implant part. The tongue implant is coupled with the anchoring element and/or the scar tissue through the at least one arm. The length of the at least one arm may be adjusted for shifting the tongue anteriorly.

Abstract: A vehicle electrical power system includes a generator which generates power for application to loads and to chassis and batteries for storage. A starter motor for an engine is energized primarily from the battery. A contactor between the batteries has a closed state in which power can flow between the batteries and an open state which interrupts power flow between the batteries and from the generator to the cranking battery. A controller enables periodic stopping and starting of the engine is responsive to a battery state of charge for at least one of the batteries for operating the engine to maintain a minimum battery state of charge. The contactor may have a limited closed state in which power flow between the batteries is surge limited. Power flow is surge limited through the connector responsive to a voltage difference between the batteries.

Abstract: A device for providing a lever attachment to round doorknobs having a flexible cylindrical part that adapts to the majority of doorknobs of different diameters, thicknesses and profiles. During the screw tightening the compressible elastomeric material sandwiched between doorknob and cylindrical part of the attachment increases the interface contact surface to take the shape of the doorknob profile. The elastomeric insert has a high coefficient of friction. It prevents slipping of the attachment after tightening.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing two or more composite parts, the method comprising: assembling the composite parts on a mandrel by laying a series of layers of bands of composite material onto the mandrel with a placement machine,—rotating the mandrel as the bands are laid onto the mandrel; attaching two or more debulk frames (10, 11) to the mandrel between opposed edges of the composite parts after the composite parts have been assembled; wrapping the mandrel, debulk frames (10, 11) and composite parts in a debulk bag; heating the composite parts,—forming a vacuum between the mandrel and the debulk bag so that the debulk bag is sucked into voids between the debulk frames and the heated composite parts and progressively presses against the heated composite parts whereby excess material is squeezed by the debulk bag towards their opposed edges; and removing the debulk bag and the composite parts from the mandrel.

Abstract: Methods and compositions for providing a durable, non-stick coating on steel and/or cast iron surfaces are disclosed. Disclosed is a method for coating a steel or cast iron substrate, the method comprising contacting at least a portion of a steel or cast iron substrate with a porcelain enamel coating formulation to form a first coating, roughening at least a portion of the first coating, and then contacting that portion of first coating with a sol-gel composition. An article is also disclosed comprising a steel or cast iron substrate, a porcelain enamel coating attached to the substrate, wherein a portion of a surface of the porcelain enamel coating opposite the substrate is roughened, and a non-stick coating attached to the roughened porcelain enamel coating.
