  • Publication number: 20040031796
Abstract: A packaging cup of the type typically utilized to contain a small volume of a condiment or sauce and formed of a resilient material. This cup has a reservoir and a flange which surrounds the reservoir with a lid sealed to the flange. The packaging cup is improved by including support segment cut into the flange of the packaging cup that engages with a corresponding slot cut into a vertical surface of a foodstuff container. A keyed geometry at the base of each side of the food container provides restriction to removing the packaging cup. This type of serving arrangement is illustrated for condiments such as ketchup for French fries, syrup for French toast sticks and barbeque sauce for chicken strips. Even though the packaging cup may have a pre-determined amount of condiment sealed within the reservoir, the consumer at the location where the packaging arrangement is used may also fill the packaging cup. The foodstuff container may be used with or without the packaging cup.

  • Patent number: 6045530
Abstract: A catheter is provided which is disposed for insertion into a fluid-containing cavity of a patient, such as a ventricle of the patient's brain, to drain CSF therefrom. The catheter includes an elongated body provided with a cross-section having an outer surface which is smooth and free of projections, angles or the like which could damage adjacent brain tissue. The elongated body is further provided with proximal and distal ends, a first lumen disposed to serve as a fluid flow passage, and a second lumen extending past a given position located on the elongated body. A titanium wire element is inserted into the second lumen for enabling a neurosurgeon to readily select and adjust the angular orientation between first and second catheter segments, wherein the first and second segments comprise the portions of the elongated body extending between the given position and the proximal and distal ends, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5984131
Abstract: The invention is generally directed to a plate-lid for serving selected food items which are to be used in connection with a beverage container. An inner circular ribbed region of the plate-lid snaps over the annular ridge or rim of the beverage container thereby forming a seal to prevent spillage of liquid from the beverage container. The ribbed region includes a plurality of inwardly directed lands with a plurality of flutes of varying circumferential lengths positioned between the lands in order to space the lands about the inner plate-lid. The outer area of the plate-lid provides sections or wells for the placement of food stuffs and/or condiments. This mating means serves to resist lateral movement between the beverage container and the food holding section or tray when they are joined together. The plate-lid also provides the option for a straw insertion in a location where the straw will not interfere with the food items or condiments being served on the plate-lid.

  • Patent number: 5954195
Abstract: A tray is provided for serving selected food items, wherein the tray is to be used in connection with a separate elongated container, preferably of the type used to retain a beverage. The tray generally comprises a food holding section disposed to carry the food items, and structure for detachably mating or joining the food holding section upon the elongated container, for support thereby. Thus, the container, tray and food thereon can be readily supported and carried by a user as a single unit, by grasping the container with a single hand. In a useful embodiment the center of mass of the tray is substantially aligned along the container axis when the tray and container are joined together. Also, the food holding section and mating structure are usefully formed as an integral structure.

  • Patent number: 5947919
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in coronary bypass surgery procedures wherein the heart remains beating rather than completely stopping the heart, where a blockage is located in the blood vessel for the heart and an incision is made in the vessel adjacent the blockage for the grafting of a vein from another location in the patient's body, and an intraluminal shunt is inserted into the blood vessel to retain the vessel open and allow blood flow through the vessel but prevent blood flow on the exterior of the shunt. The intraluminal shunt comprises a primary perfusion tube having an enlarged bulb or occluder adjacent each end of the tube to cooperate with the interior surface of the vessel, and a secondary perfusion tube intersecting the primary tube at a point either intermediate between the ends of the primary tube or at a location providing a one-third/two-thirds ratio along the primary tube.

  • Patent number: 5894977
Abstract: A backpack assembly with top, bottom, front, primary back and side panels which together define a chamber within. A pair of shoulder straps are secured to the backpack such that, with the straps positioned over the shoulders of the person, the position of the front panel is generally parallel to the back of the person. The primary back panel is securely attached to a secondary back panel along the top edge and elastically attached along the sides forming a pocket in-between the back panels. When placed over the back chair rest, the pocket supports the backpack behind the chair. Thermal gradient pads and vibrational generation provide enhanced benefits of the backpack to the user.

  • Patent number: 5795307
Abstract: A shunt tap device is provided for use in sensing CSF pressure data in a shunt implanted in a subject, wherein the shunt comprises a valve having a reservoir, and first and second catheters providing CSF flow paths toward and away from the valve, respectively. The shunt tap device is provided with a hollow needle for temporarily forming an aperture through the wall of the reservoir, to communicate with CSF contained therein. A length of flexible microbore tubing extends from the needle to a coupling, such as a Touhy-Borst connector, which is disposed to receive the pressure transducer component of a pressure monitoring device into a narrow fluid enclosure, collectively formed by the hollow needle, tubing, and a portion of the connector. The fluid enclosure is filled with a saline fluid or the like, having properties similar to CSF. The connector is tightened to seal the saline fluid within the fluid enclosure, and also to retain the pressure transducer in the enclosure, in contact with the saline fluid.

  • Patent number: 4131348
Abstract: A collapsible microfilm reader having a lower body part with a micro-fiche projector and a cover hinged thereto and having a rectangular projection surface or screen on its inner surface which is operatively positioned when the cover is in its open position. The hinge or hinges which connect the body and cover are readily disconnectable and connectable so that the cover can selectively be mounted on the body with the long or short axis of the screen aligned with the central axis of the projector thereby permitting the optimum projection of micro-fiches of different formats by changing when necessary the orientation of the positioning of the cover on the body rather than requiring different positioning of micro-fiches of different formats with respect to the projector.
