  • Patent number: 6872070
Abstract: A U-tube diffusion flame burner assembly having improved flame stabilization with no undesirable acoustic effects. The burners are axial units comprised of flame holders and combustors. The flame holders includes secondary air tubes to support the flow of secondary air that have helical walls forming helical passageways along at least a portion of its inner diameter to impart a swirl to the secondary air. The helical passageways impart a swirl to the secondary air exiting the passageways while simultaneously acting as a heat exchanger to heat primary air. The flame holders includes fuel tubes having first ends connected to a fuel supply and second flame ends. A plurality of radially oriented apertures are located at the second flame ends to distribute fuel in a radial direction. Primary air tube surrounds at least the flame ends of the fuel tubes and extend axially from first air supply ends to second flame ends.

  • Publication number: 20020091584
Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the disclosure describes a method for use in electronic content distribution. The method includes storing sets of metadata corresponding to different electronic content titles available for distribution in accordance with different, respective, non-affiliated electronic book digital rights management schemes. At least some of the sets of metadata indicate at least one authorized retailer. The method also includes determining one or more sets of metadata for a retailer, the determined sets corresponding to electronic content the retailer is authorized to retail, and generating an output file of content available to the retailer that includes at least a portion of the determined sets of metadata.

  • Publication number: 20020082939
Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the disclosure describes a method of fulfilling a request for an electronic book having an electronic book digital rights management system. The method includes receiving a request for the electronic book from a network client that includes an electronic book identifier and a retailer identifier. The method also includes determining a digital rights management (DRM) system for the identified electronic book from a set of at least two DRM systems provided by different unaffiliated vendor, and distributing the electronic book to the network client in accordance with the electronic book's electronic book DRM system.

  • Patent number: 5432585
Abstract: A camera locks out an attempted flash photograph when the voltage of the flash charger is below a minimum voltage necessary for the flash to fire. Flash lockout may also take place when: the flash charger voltage is equal to or greater than the minimum flash voltage but less than the lowest voltage in a voltage range providing optimum flash lighting; and the photographic subject distance is beyond the flash range at the present flash charger voltage. Lockout may also be determined based on current flash charger charging time compared to predetermined times for the flash charger to reach the minimum voltage and/or the lowest voltage in the optimum lighting range from a substantially discharged state.

  • Patent number: 5400443
Abstract: A modified flush toilet adapted to process solid human waste into a recyclable product. The toilet has a bowl with a chamber under it for receiving the waste flushed thereinto. A rotatable filter disk is mounted in the chamber. This filter disk allows the liquid waste to pass through and retains the solid waste. An electric heater is provided to convert from time to time the solid waste accumulated onto the disk into dry granules which may be blown into a bag and subsequently used as a fertilizer. A heavy duty disposal unit may also be incorporated into the toilet to treat other bathroom and household waste. The unit communicates with the chamber through a pipe.

  • Patent number: 5184915
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed, for lifting up water to a predetermined level where it can be useful, using the inexhaustible and non-polluting source of energy of the ocean tides to do so. The apparatus comprises a water chamber positioned to be filled with water following a rise in tide. Rising on the tide causes some air to be trapped and pressurized on top of the chamber. This pressurized air in turn is used to push some water up to the predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 4559009
Abstract: A swirl-type internal flame recirculation burner as used to fire asphalt plant aggregate dryers, air heaters and calcining kilns and method includes an atomizer assembly for swirling primary air in two concentric streams with the inner stream swirling more rapidly than the outer stream. Fuel oil is blast atomized in a continuous sheet into the inner stream without prefilming and then is shear atomized as the inner and outer streams violently intermix. The burning and swirling fuel and primary air mixture recirculates upstream along the burner axis. Secondary air is swirled in the same direction as the primary air and surrounds the primary air stream to promote further mixing and internal recirculation. A metal frustro-conical flame holder surrounds the burner head to stabilize and shape the recirculation flame and shield low-burn flames from tertiary air. The swirl of the secondary air is also adjusted to shape the flame. The burner may also be fired on gas or a combination of gas and oil.
