Patent number: 12007595Abstract: An optical assembly includes an integral lens assembly having one or more lenses bonded to each other with spaced apart major first and second lens surfaces. First and second optical films are bonded to respective major first and second lens surfaces. The first and second optical films includes a plurality of polymeric layers. Each of the polymeric layers have an average thickness of less than about 500 nm. For a substantially normally incident light and a visible wavelength range the plurality of polymeric layers in the first optical film has an average optical transmittance and an average optical reflectance of greater than about 70% for a first polarization state and an orthogonal second polarization state, respectively. The plurality of polymeric layers in the second optical film has an average optical transmittance of greater than about 70% for at least one of the first and second polarization states.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2021Date of Patent: June 11, 2024Inventors: John D. Le, Gregg A. Ambur, Zhisheng Yun, Robert M. Jennings, Arthur L. Kotz, Timothy L. Wong, David T. Yust, Timothy J. Nevitt, Kayla A. McGrath

Publication number: 20240168210Abstract: An optical film includes a first optical stack disposed on a visible light absorbing second optical stack. Each of the first and second optical stacks includes a plurality of alternating polymeric first and second layers. The first layers have a higher index of refraction than the second layers at least along an in-plane same first direction. For substantially normally incident light and for at least 80% of wavelengths in a visible wavelength range, the plurality of alternating polymeric first and second layers for at least the first optical stack reflects more than about 60% of the incident light polarized along the first direction and transmits more than about 45% of the incident light polarized along an in-plane orthogonal second direction, and at least the first layers of the second optical stack are more light absorbing for the incident light polarized along the first direction than the second direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2022Publication date: May 23, 2024Inventors: John D. Le, Timothy L. Wong, Benjamin G. Sonnek, Kayla A. McGrath, David J.W. Aastuen

Patent number: 10368621Abstract: The packages described by this invention all have reduced “head space,” that is, the distance from lid to lens. Packages contain dimples to achieve this reduced head space. Specifically, packages are designed with dimple sag equal to or less than 1.90-mm, or volume displaced equal to or less than 360 ?l. Combined with the existing primary packaging, it has been found that such conditions provide for reduction in folded lens rate during shipping and handling. As well, lenses stored or having an extended time in low head space packages in a “foil down” orientation now have characteristics closer lenses stored in a “foil up orientation.” The packages finally include a foil 3D pattern at a smaller scale than the dimple, by embossing or other methods allowing reduce lens sticking to the foil as well as an added anti-counterfeiting measure.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2017Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc.Inventors: Vincent Barre, Edward Kernick, Dominic Gourd, Leslie Voss, John McGrath, Sydney Higginbottom
