  • Publication number: 20020087011
Abstract: Invented is an improved process for preparing aromatic ring-fused cyclopentane derivatives. Preferred compounds prepared by this invention are indane carboxylates and cyclopentano[b]pyridine derivatives. The most preferred compounds prepared by this inventino are (+)(1S,2R,3S)-3-[2-(2-hydroxyeth-1-yloxy)-4-methoxyphenyl]-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-5-(prop-1-yloxy)indane-2-carboxylic acid and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and (+)(1S,2R,3S)-3-[(2-carboxymethoxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-5-(prop-1-yloxy)indane-2-carboxylic acid and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. Also invented are novel intermediates useful in preparing these compounds.

  • Patent number: 6397219
Abstract: A system for automatically creating databases containing industry, service, product and subject classification data, contact data, geographic location data (CCG-data) and links to web pages from HTML, XML or SGML encoded web pages posted on computer networks such as the Internet or Intranets. The web pages containing HTML, XML or SGML encoded CCG-data, database update controls and web browser display controls are created and modified by using simple text editors, HTML, XML or SGML editors or purpose built editors. The CCG databases may be searched for references (URLs) to web pages by use of enquiries which reference one or more of the items of the CCG-data. Alternatively, enquiries referencing the CCG-data in the databases may supply contact data without web page references. Data duplication and coordination is reduced by including in the web page CCG-data display controls which are used by web browsers to format for display the same data that is used to automatically update the databases.

  • Patent number: 6146539
Abstract: Methods and compositions are disclosed for treating swimming pool waters in order to remove one or more nutrients necessary for algal growth and to accelerate the breakdown of objectionable chloramines within chlorinated pool waters. The target nutrients of preference are those containing phosphorus or nitrogen. Phosphorus nutrients are preferably removed by ion-exchange with finely divided lanthanum carbonate, or by direct precipitation in the pool with liquid lanthanum chloride. Nitrogen nutrients (including, in particular, chloramines) may be removed (possibly with the aid of catalysts and in separate reactors). The same reagents used to scavenge phosphates are useful in this regard, the nitrogen being released from the pool water as a nitrogenous gas. To allow the fine lanthanum carbonates to be conveniently handled in the pool environment, they may be linked to larger carrier particles, such as those of diatomaceous earth, or they may be embedded within porous beads formed from polymers or gels.

  • Patent number: 6056127
Abstract: Sorting apparatus has a delivery system for creating a stream of product pieces to be sorted in free flight at a sorting station where selected pieces are rejected from the stream. The system comprise a delivery conveyor inclined to the horizontal for receiving product and directing it towards the sorting station. The length of the delivery conveyor, its inclination and speed are selected to effectively create a low friction chute and establish a uniform, stable and constant velocity product stream for delivery to the sorting station.

  • Patent number: 5855948
Abstract: This invention relates to drink compositions or drink concentrate compositions having no or low added sugar. The sweetness is provided by an intense sweetener, reducing or eliminating the amount of added sugar needed. No or low sugar drink compositions often lack `non sweetness` characteristics such as body, texture and viscosity and appear weak and watery. The present invention uses gelatinized starch together with an intense sweetener. The gelatinised starch compensates for the thickening, non sweetness property of the missing added sugar giving the drink body and a thicker mouthfeel as well as a pleasant after taste. The drink may additionally contain acidulants, buffers, preservatives, colorants and fruit comminutes.

  • Patent number: 5632094
Abstract: A portable drafting device and learning tool for laying out perspective drawing lines to enhance the realism of standard 30 degree base line isometric drawings and other similar drawings with different base line angles. The device comprises a rectangular drawing board including a plurality of holes disposed linearly in the upper corner portions thereof for pivotally mounting a plurality of articulated arm members in functional relationship with the drawing surface. The articulated arms comprise upper arm portions which are pivotally coupled to straight-edge members, each being disposed at approximately thirty degrees to horizontal. Upper arm portions are provided with a plurality of adjustment holes for alternate placement of pivot pins, or a slot to effect vertical adjustment of the articulated arms in relation to the drawing surface. Straight-edge members may be pivoted at varying angles in relation to upper arm members to enable selective adjustment of the desired vanishing point distance.
