The apparatus comprises a rigid horizontal support bar, two vertical members attached to the ends of the support bar, buoyant floats attached to the vertical members and a transmitter/receiver package disposed on the vertical members. The apparatus acts as a gate which individuals or water-vehicles passing therethrough are detected or timed by the transmitter/receiver package contained thereon. The apparatus is kept stabilized by being secured to any nearby stationary object and by adapting the submerged portion of the apparatus to provide negative buoyancy.

    Abstract: In a batch process in which reaction effluent is dumped from the reactor to a flash tank through a dump line which contains both a dump valve and a control valve, the control valve is manipulated in response to a signal which opens the control valve at a desired rate as a function of time or in response to a signal which is representative of the maximum opening of the control valve which can be maintained without exceeding a pressure limit in the flash tank whichever signal is representative of the lower opening of the control valve. In this manner, reaction effluent is withdrawn from the reactor at a substantially maximum rate without causing flashing across the dump valve and without exceeding a pressure limitation for the flash tank.

    Abstract: A desired oxygen/fuel ratio is maintained for a combustion process when the heat required from the combustion process is substantially constant. Excess oxygen is provided to the combustion process in response to an increasing fuel flow resulting from an increase in the heat required of the combustion process by initiating an increase in the flow of an oxygen-containing fluid before the fuel flow rate is increased in response to an increasing heat requirement. When the heat required of the combustion process is decreasing, the reduction in the flow rate of the fuel is initiated prior to initiating a reduction in the flow rate of the oxygen-containing fluid. In this manner, excess oxygen is provided to a combustion process even when the fuel flow rate is not at a steady-state condition.

    Abstract: A vessel to be vented on a discontinuous basis is connected by first conduit means, containing a first valve means, to the inlet of a compressor. An equalization chamber is connected by second conduit means, containing a second valve means, to the first conduit means at a point between the first valve means and the inlet of the compressor. The valves are selectively actuated to initially connect the vessel and the equalization chamber to permit the gas pressures therein to equalize then to close off the chamber while the compressor withdraws additional gas from the vessel until the desired pressure is reached, and finally to withdraw gas from the chamber. The equalization chamber and compressor can be employed to sequentially vent a plurality of vessels. A control means can be utilized to perform the selective actuation of the valves.
