  • Patent number: 8981629
Abstract: An LED-based lighting assembly includes a heat sink having at least one pedestal with an upwardly facing, upper planar surface that is raised in a vertical direction relative to an upwardly facing, lower planar surface of the heat sink. A PCB forms an aperture corresponding to the pedestal, includes electrical conductors on an upper surface thereof, and is attached to the lower planar surface. The upper planar surface extends into the aperture, and one or more LED chips attach directly to the upper planar surface and connect to the conductors such that light emits upwardly. A method of integrating LEDs with a heat sink includes mounting a PCB to a planar surface of the heat sink, mounting one or more LED chips to a raised surface of the heat sink that is not covered by the PCB, and electrically connecting the LED chips to conductors on the PCB.

  • Publication number: 20140090379
Abstract: An exhaust gas collection system for capturing the exhaust gas emitted by auxiliary engines, auxiliary boilers and other sources on an Ocean Going Vessel (OGV) while at berth or at anchor, so that these gases may be carried to an emissions treatment system for removal of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. The exhaust gas collection system includes a diverter to redirect the exhaust gas normally carried by exhaust pipes to the OGV's stack for release to the atmosphere, to an exhaust gas treatment system. The emissions treatment system may be land-based, water-based, or on the OGV. When the emissions treatment system is land-based, water-based, the exhaust gas is carried to a connection location that accessible by a ducting system to carry the exhaust gas to the emissions treatment system. The exhaust gas collection system preferably includes parallel-flow ducts and a manifold to combine the parallel-flows into a single duct for more convenient routing through the vessel.

  • Patent number: 8555980
Abstract: A blowout containment system is permanently positioned on the wellhead. The blowout containment system is relatively inexpensive, is always available and in place, it does not interfere with normal drilling operations, will capture all of the oil and gas emitted by the blowout, does not require special or unique sea surface or underwater apparatus or vessels, does not have any operational requirements that are different than those which drilling crews normally use and are already familiar, and is activated the using actions are similar to those used by drilling crews for well drilling and completion.

  • Patent number: 8327631
Abstract: A platform mounted emissions control unit includes a first system to reduce Particulate Matter (PM), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and a second system to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). The systems serially process exhaust from a mobile or stationary pollution source. In one embodiment, first system is an Ionizing Wet Scrubber (IWS) and the second system is a Selective Catalytic Reducer (SCR), wherein the IWS processes the exhaust first to improve efficiency and service life of the SCR. A generator produces power required by the IWS and SCR, and heat from exhaust of the generator may be used convert urea to ammonia for use by the SCR, and to heat the exhaust flow into the SCR. The SCR may further include a heat exchanger to capture heat in the flow out of the SCR and use the captured heat to heat the flow into the SCR.

  • Patent number: 8061647
Abstract: An airship includes a substantially rigid keel with a balloon suspended from a fore of the keel and a balloon suspended from the aft of the keel. Motor booms extend laterally from the keel between the fore and the aft. Motors with propellers thereon are coupled to the end of each motor boom. The balloons are preferably coupled to the keel through cradles which support portions of the balloon above the keel and restrain the balloons to pivoting motion in a fore and aft pitching direction. A deployment system is disclosed including filing of the balloons within balloon deployment bags on the ground, and then opening the bags at time of launch. The keel and other structural elements can be in the form of a truss, rigid hollow cylindrical tubes, or air beams and stressed skin sheets, or combinations thereof.
