  • Publication number: 20050122467
Abstract: A frameless glassware assembly attaching to boy piercing studs or similar structures attached to the human boy. One disclosed design consists of an elastomeric C-clip fixedly attached to one distal end of a metal arm, which is attached to a frameless glass lens assembly. This design allows for frameless eyeglass attachment to eyebrow studs, the nose studs of a user, or similar structure via one or more elastomeric C-clips. One embodiment allows the frameless glassware to attach to eyebrow studs and the second allows the frameless glassware to attach to a nose stud. Both of these designs are frameless and avoid side wire or similar earpieces common to hold glassware to the face of a user.

  • Publication number: 20040197942
Abstract: A field emission backplate formed by laser crystallizing of an area of amorphous semiconductor based material. Emitter sites result from the rough surface texture caused by the crystallization process. The crystallization may be localized using laser interferometry, and profiled emitter tips grown on the localized crystalline areas. Such backplates can be used in field emission devices emitting into either a vacuum or a wide band gap light-emitting polymer. Furthermore, a backplate having self-aligned gates can be formed by depositing an insulator layer and a metal layer over the emitter tips, removing the top of the metal layer and etching away the insulator, leaving each tip surrounded by a metal rim. A planarizing agent can be used to refine this process.

  • Publication number: 20040106734
Abstract: Polymer compositions comprising poly-glycolic acid (PGA) or a functional derivative thereof with a tensile strength of at least 1200 MPa are disclosed. Processes suitable for manufacturing said compositions are also described, comprising rendering PGA into an amorphous state then drawing to form a highly orientated polymer structure. The polymer compositions can be used to make artefacts, for example sutures, or used in combination with other polymers or non-polymeric substances to produce other artefacts, for example medical devices suitable for implantation into the human body. Processes for the production of said artefacts are also described.

  • Patent number: 6711576
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for creating compacted method signatures from method signature representations in Java™ class files are disclosed. The use of compacted signatures reduces the amount of memory space occupied by the signatures and, further, improve the efficiency with which a virtual machine may operate. According to one aspect of the present invention, a method a method for creating a compact representation of a method signature using a virtual machine includes creating 4-bit representations for each of a first parameter, a separator, and a return type included in the method signature. Once the 4-bit representation are created, the representations are packed into a word. In one embodiment, the word is a 32-bit word. In such an embodiment, the 32-bit word may be a 32-bit integer.

  • Patent number: 5059053
Abstract: A positive stop clamp for clamping a cross tube of a tie rod to a tie rod end includes a one-pieced clamp body having a U-shape cross section and a locking fastener. The clamp body includes two flat ends, each end having a pair of inwardly bent ears whereby a substantially circular interior is defined. The body further includes a cantilevered locator tab having a flange at its end. The flange abuts the end of the cross tube to locate the clamp at the desired point on the tube.

  • Patent number: 4962290
Abstract: A mechanism for providing electrical or pneumatic signals indicative of the rotation position of a rotatable shaft includes a switch housing mounted on a base with a cam shaft passing upward through the base and supporting one or more cam elements for cooperating with electrical switches contained within the housing. The base is especially designed to support a flared drum on the outer surface of which are graphic characters viewable through a window on a fixed indicator cover and visible from above and the sides for visibly displaying the orientation of the rotary shaft. The mounting mechanism including a system of brackets and spacers permits the device to be used with a variety of devices incorporating a rotatable shaft.

  • Patent number: 4907911
Abstract: A method of lining an existing pipe by pulling through it a collapsible, flexible, lay-flat liner having an innermost layer of impervious, elastomeric material which is compatible with the fluid to be carried by the pipe, a textile reinforcing intermediate layer, and an external protective layer of elastomeric material. The liner has an external circumference slightly less than the internal circumference of the pipe and is such that flow of fluid through the liner after the installation thereof expands the liner into non-binding contact with the internal surface of the pipe. The peripheral extension (diametral swell) of the liner at the intended working pressure of the relined pipe should be less than 10% and preferably less than 5%.

  • Patent number: 4337545
Abstract: A ship to shore bridge is movable between a stowed position in which it is received in a recess formed in a quay face and effectively forms a continuation of the quay face along the length of the recess, so that the quay can be used in normal manner, and an operative position in which the ship end of the bridge is moved out of the recess by slewing of the bridge about its shore end, so that the bridge can provide access from the quay to a bow or stern door of a ship berthed alongside the remainder of the quay.

  • Patent number: 4306213
Abstract: This invention relates to fuses for electrical plugs and more particularly to a high and low overcurrent stratified fuse for use in a low power electrical circuit. The fuse has a layered construction in which a particulate conductive link is cooperatively applied and adhered to a heat deformable substrate. The substrate in a further preferred embodiment is thermally isolated by an insulating layer abutting the substrate on the side opposite the conductive link. The conductive link melts or disintegrates in response to high over current conditions. The substrate deforms and breaks the conductive link applied thereto in response to low over current conditions.
