  • Patent number: 5695411
Abstract: A golf club head includes a heel end, a toe end, a front face arranged to impact a golf ball, and a back face disposed rearwardly of the front face. A perimeter weighting element of increased mass protrudes rearwardly away from the front face and defines a cavity in the back face. The perimeter weighting element includes a top rail and a sole. A plurality of ribs are disposed in the cavity for eliminating undesirable vibrations in the golf club head when the front face impacts a golf ball and for attenuating other vibrations in the golf club head. Each of the ribs extends generally radially relative to the cavity from an inner end to an outer end that merges with the perimeter weighting element. An elliptically shaped geometric mass concentration is formed on a bottom surface of the cavity for assisting the plurality of ribs in eliminating the undesirable vibrations and in attenuating the other vibrations.

  • Patent number: 5643099
Abstract: A golf club head includes a heel end, a toe end, and a front face arranged for impact with a golf ball. A plurality of elongated grooves are formed in the front face of the body. A pair of visual indicators are provided on the front face and are aligned with one of the grooves. One of the visual indicators is aligned with a heel end of the groove, and the other visual indicator is aligned with a toe end of the groove. When the club head is placed at "address" behind a golf ball, the visual indicators are utilized in a manner to position the club head so that the elongated grooves in the front face lie perpendicular to an intended target line. This prevents the club head from being inadvertently positioned with the front face "open" or "closed".

  • Patent number: 5596812
Abstract: A gauge for accurately measuring depths of grooves formed in a face of a golf club head. The gauge includes a disk with a diameter of approximately one-half inch and a thickness of approximately one-eighth inch. The gauge also includes a ridge that extends across a flat surface on the disk. When the gauge is used, it is positioned so that the ridge is inserted in a groove in a club head face. If the ridge contacts the bottom of the groove, the disk will not lie flush against the club head face but will rock back and forth on the club head face thereby indicating that the groove conforms with the Rules of Golf as approved by The United States Golf Association.

  • Patent number: 5501328
Abstract: A cover for a golf bag throat structure is constructed to be easily removable from and reattachable to the throat structure. The cover includes an outer portion for covering a peripheral ring on the throat structure, and an inner portion for covering cross bars on the throat structure. The cover outer portion includes a first side wall disposed inside the peripheral ring, a second side wall disposed outside the peripheral ring, and a top wall connecting the side walls. A strip of material mounted on the first side wall is arranged for interlocking engagement with an internal lip extending circumferentially of the throat structure on the peripheral ring. The cover inner portion is substantially U-shaped in cross section including a pair of flanges that are detachably fastened together in order to attach the cover inner portion to the cross bars on the throat structure.

  • Patent number: 5437365
Abstract: A golf bag has a generally tubular body with an open top end and a closed bottom end. A shoulder strap has an upper end connected to the body adjacent the top end thereof and a lower end connected to the body intermediate the top and bottom ends thereof. The shoulder strap is long enough to loop over one shoulder of a person. A pair of auxiliary handles are attached to the body adjacent the bottom end. Each auxiliary handle is disposed so that it may be grasped by one hand of the person carrying the golf bag when utilizing the shoulder strap.

  • Patent number: 5343566
Abstract: A protective mitten for golfers has a finger receiving portion, a thumb receiving portion and a wrist receiving portion. The mitten includes an outer shell made of water resistant material such as nylon, a lining made of insulating material such as synthetic shearling disposed inside the outer shell, and a strip of resilient material such as foam rubber attached to the outer shell extending circumferentially of the wrist receiving portion of the mitten. The strip of resilient material is disposed between the outer shell and the lining.

  • Patent number: 5251901
Abstract: A wood type golf club includes a head attached to one end of a shaft. The head has a total head weight which is used in calculating a swingweight for the golf club. A face portion on a body in the club head is arranged for impacting a golf ball, and a sole plate is attached to a bottom portion of the club head. In order to resist twisting movements of the club head when impacting a golf ball at off-center points located on the body face portion, the sole plate has a majority of its weight concentrated around its perimeter by providing a cavity in an interior surface of the sole plate. The body and the sole plate each have an individual weight which is less than the total head weight. The sole plate is selected from a plurality of sole plates formed of identical material but having different weights. The weight of the selected sole plate is equal to the total head weight minus the weight of the body thereby eliminating the use of additional weighted inserts in the body.

  • Patent number: 4834235
Abstract: A lightweight carry bag for golf clubs is provided with an automatically extensible bag stand which supports the golf bag in a propped-up position whenever the golf bag is set down during the course of playing a game of golf. The bag stand is configured to operate in the manner of a toggle mechanism with the operating force being derived from a partial longitudinal collapsing of the carry bag which occurs when the bag is set down on the ground in a vertical attitude and leaned over slightly in the direction of a partially collapsible side of the golf bag.
