Patent number: 11962178Abstract: A method for managing a battery to perform a final action, the method includes determining a battery supplying power to an electronic device is discharging and receiving battery specification information for the battery. The method includes receiving environmental condition information for the battery and determining an open circuit voltage for the battery. The method includes determining a base capacity for the battery, a first capacity reduction for the battery based on the battery specification, and a second capacity reduction for the battery based on the environmental condition information. The method includes determining an overall expected capacity for the battery based on the first capacity reduction and the second capacity reduction, where the overall expected capacity represents available energy. Responsive to determining the available energy for the battery is less than a required energy to perform an action prior to battery depletion, the method includes sending a warning notification.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2021Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Eric B. Patent number: 8352374Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling the distribution of digital content are provided. A license holder acquires protected content and an original digital license to the protected content from a content provider system. The license holder in turn delegates all or part of the grants in that original license to other qualified devices or clients. The content remains in its original, protected or encrypted form while it is delivered from the license holder to the client along with a digital sublicense that the client receives from the original license holder, whereupon the content can then be rendered. The original digital license defines or governs the conditions under which such delegation occurs, and includes terms under which such delegation is permitted to continue in order to enforce the intent of the content provider.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2010Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc.Inventors: Eric John Swenson, Ryuji Ishiguro, Motohiko Nagano, Pierre Chavanne

Patent number: 8239961Abstract: A method for monitoring time so that the use of protected content can be controlled includes receiving a trusted time value from a trusted authority external to a client device. When the client is no longer in communication with the trusted authority, the previously-received trusted time value is updated by use of the client's operating system counter so that a calculated trusted time value is derived for content license evaluation purposes.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2010Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc.Inventors: Marc E. Strohwig, Yoji Kawamoto, Motohiko Nagano, Pierre Chavanne, Norifumi Goto, Oscar H. Steele, III, Eric John Swenson

Publication number: 20120003131Abstract: An apparatus for dissipating energy into the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine includes a container for confining a flow path for exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine where the container has an inlet and an outlet. A porous, electrically conductive mesh is placed in the container such that exhaust gas can flow through the conductive mesh. At least two electrical terminals are in permanent electrical contact with the conductive mesh. An electrical power supply completes an electrical circuit through the conductive mesh with the power supply having two or more electrical outputs electrically connected to an equal number of electrical terminals on the conductive mesh. The apparatus provides a filter, heater, electrical load and silencer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2011Publication date: January 5, 2012Applicant: RYPOS, INC.Inventors: Osama Ibrahim, Klaus Peter, Noah Loren, Peter Willey, Zachary L. Patent number: 5606711Abstract: An apparatus (100) utilizes a shift register (107) to select which of multiple synthesizers (115, 117) is to receive programming information. This allows multiple synthesizers (115, 117) to be programmed based on input from a single programing line group (102). The number of devices that can be programmed is limited by the number of parallel outputs available from the shift register (107).Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1995Date of Patent: February 25, 1997Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: John A.
