Patent number: 11743642Abstract: A microphone assembly includes an acoustic transducer configured to generate an analog signal in response to pressure changes sensed by the acoustic transducer. The analog signal includes frequency components below a threshold frequency. The microphone assembly also includes an integrated circuit electrically coupled to the acoustic transducer and configured to determine a characteristic of frequency components below the threshold frequency, determine whether the characteristic of the frequency components corresponds to a fall event, and generate an output signal in response to a determination that the characteristic of the frequency components corresponds to the fall event. The microphone assembly also includes a housing having an external device interface with electrical contacts. The acoustic transducer and the integrated circuit are disposed within the housing. The integrated circuit is electrically coupled to contacts of the external device interface.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2020Date of Patent: August 29, 2023Assignee: KNOWLES ELECTRONICS, LLC.Inventor: John Albers

Publication number: 20220201387Abstract: A microphone assembly comprises a substrate. An acoustic transducer is disposed on the substrate, the acoustic transducer configured to generate an electrical signal responsive to acoustic activity. An integrated circuit is disposed on the substrate and electrically coupled to the acoustic transducer, the integrated circuit configured to generate an output signal indicative of the acoustic activity based on the electrical signal from the acoustic transducer. An enclosure is coupled to the substrate and defines an internal volume between the enclosure and the substrate, the enclosure having an outer surface exposed to an outside environment of the microphone assembly, and an inner surface adjacent the internal volume. An insulating layer is disposed on the inner surface of the enclosure. The insulating layer comprises a fluoropolymer.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2020Publication date: June 23, 2022Inventors: Adam Ariffin, John Albers

Publication number: 20200196065Abstract: A transducer assembly comprises an acoustic transducer comprising a transducer substrate having a first aperture defined at a first location of the transducer substrate, an acoustic transducer diaphragm disposed on the transducer substrate over the first aperture, and an acoustic transducer back plate disposed on the transducer substrate axially spaced apart from the acoustic transducer diaphragm over the first aperture. The transducer assembly also includes a vibration transducer comprising the transducer substrate having a second aperture defined at a second location thereof, a vibration transducer diaphragm disposed on the transducer substrate over the second aperture, a vibration transducer back plate disposed on the transducer substrate axially spaced apart from the vibration transducer back plate over the second aperture, and an anchor coupled to one of the vibration transducer diaphragm or the vibration transducer back plate, the anchor disposed in the second aperture and suspended freely therewithin.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2019Publication date: June 18, 2020Applicant: Knowles Electronics, LLCInventors: Michael Pedersen, John Albers, Daryl Barry, Venkataraman Chandrasekaran, Sarmad Qutub, Joshua Watson

Publication number: 20160150327Abstract: A microphone includes a base; a micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) device disposed on the base, the MEMS device configured to convert sound into a first electrical signal; an integrated circuit disposed on the base and coupled to the MEMS device; a photo diode disposed on the base, the photo diode configured to convert light into a second electrical signal. At least one of the first electrical signal and the second electrical signal is processed by the integrated circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2015Publication date: May 26, 2016Inventors: Sarmad Qutub, Martin Volk, John Albers

Publication number: 20160134975Abstract: A microphone includes a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device, an amplifier, and an attenuation apparatus. The MEMS device converts acoustic energy into electrical signals. The amplifier is coupled to the MEMS device and receives an input signal from the MEMS device and performs amplification on the input signal to produce an output signal. The attenuation apparatus is coupled to the amplifier. Activation of the attenuation apparatus is effective to attenuate the output signal of the amplifier. A self-noise of the amplifier is attenuated and a sensitivity of the microphone is reduced such that a first signal-to-noise ratio is substantially the same as a second signal-to-noise ratio. The first signal-to-noise ratio occurs when the attenuation apparatus is not activated, and the second signal-to-noise ratio occurs when the attenuation apparatus is activated.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2015Publication date: May 12, 2016Inventors: Michael Kuntzman, John Albers, Claus Fürst

Publication number: 20110112891Abstract: The invention provides one or more databases that store information relating to professional service, such as legal services, accounting services, or the like. In one embodiment, the invention contemplates one or more databases containing accounting information, and one or more databases containing human resource and staffing information. The databases used herein, may be populated with data derived from one or more accounting systems, docketing systems, timekeeper systems, and the like. A software program may be used to access information from the one or more databases to generate statistics and other metrics about a lawyer's performance. In another embodiment, databases and software may be used to generate performance metrics regarding a baseball player's performance, or another individual performance.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2009Publication date: May 12, 2011Inventors: John Alber, Chris Emerson
