  • Patent number: 5899996
Abstract: A file management system allows the linking of objects. In each link one object serves as a parent and the other as a child. When a parent object is copied the parent object is copied to produce a copy of the parent object. Additionally, the child objects of the parent object are copied s well, except in the case when the child object is designated as a special public object, each child of the parent object is copied to produce a copy of the child object. Each copy of a child object is then linked to the copy of the parent object. When a child object is designated as a special public object, the child object is linked to the copy of the parent object.

  • Patent number: 5864228
Abstract: A stacked current mirror circuit includes four N-channel MOS transistors. One transistor serves as an input device for conducting via its drain, a majority of the reference current. Another transistor is connected as a mirroring device, with its drain coupled to a voltage source, its gate coupled to the gate of the input device, and its source coupled to the source of the input device at a first common node. These two transistors couple to form a first current mirror circuit which couples to the input of a second current mirror comprising the third and fourth transistors. The drain and gate of the third transistor couple to the first common node and the gate of the fourth transistor. The sources of both the third and fourth transistors couple to a second common node (e.g., ground), and the drain of the fourth transistor provides the output. As a result, current is mirrored from the input device transistor to the mirroring device transistor, and then forced through the third transistor.

  • Patent number: 5862141
Abstract: Disclosed is a variable bitrate radio modem unit that includes a transmit section and a receive section that are linked through a host computer. In the transmit section, the host computer is connected to a data modulator equipped with a variable bitrate data generator which in turn is connected to a radio transmit modem. In the receive section, a radio receive modem is connected to a clock/data recovery circuit which in turn is connected to an error detection and correction circuit. The error detection and correction circuit is then connected to the host computer. A connection is established at a predetermined bitrate between two host computers of two individual radio modem units. While data is being transmitted back and forth, the error rate of the data being received is determined by the error detection circuit. If the error rate is larger than a predetermined rate, the bitrate of the radio transmit modem of the transmitting unit is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5846004
Abstract: A construction of dot matrix print head is disclosed in which a plurality of body elements, each carrying print wire actuators, are arranged in stacked formation. The body elements and the arrangement of actuators is identical so that by offsetting the body elements relative to adjacent body elements, print wires actuated by actuators of one body member are inter-digitated with print wires actuated by actuators of a body member adjacent said one body member. This construction permits the actuators to be accommodated in a print head of relatively small transverse dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5818269
Abstract: A current mode driver capable of driving both 10 Base-T signalling and 100 Base-T signalling in a Local Area Network (LAN) includes two or four current sources. In a first embodiment, a differential signal generator drives four current sources. The generator outputs four signals, one of which is received by each current source. Using these signals, two of the current sources push or pull current across the load in one direction, while the other two current sources push or pull current across the load in the other direction, such that a full differential signal is generated across the load. In another embodiment, a signal generator drives two current sources which drive into the load one at a time. Two switches provide either high resistance or low resistance during half of a signal cycle such that current is pulled through the load in one direction, and prevented from flowing through the load in the other direction.

  • Patent number: 5809491
Abstract: A system for generating an exception report for a particular problem based on call traffic. The system maintains a count of occurrences for that problem, happening within a sliding window of call traffic volume. When the count exceeds a threshold value, the system generates the exception report whereby appropriate action may be initiated to correct the problem.

  • Patent number: 5805576
Abstract: TDMA communication system having forward channel communications and corresponding reverse channel communications between mobile users and a zone manager in an arbitrarily large broadcaster zone established by a broadcaster. The users are located within the broadcaster zone and the collectors are distributed in proximity to the broadcaster zone. The zone manager operates to control the selection of users to form user groups and for selecting collectors to form collector groups such that the difference between the propagation times from broadcaster to user to collector among users active with the same collector does not exceed a synchronization error such that user reverse channel signals at the collector are isolated from each other. Users are selected such that each of the users in the user group are located at a distance from each of said other users in the user group not greater than a distance UR.sub.max.

  • Patent number: 5792317
Abstract: A method of applying a starch sizing to a forming web on a paper machine, such as in the form of a curtain on a fourdrinier machine, employs a suspension of uncooked particulate starch and water which is applied, as a suspension, to the inlet of a downwardly opening die positioned over the forming web and applied at a consistency of between about 2 to 10% onto the surface of the web as a free falling curtain, the impact velocity of which is controlled to a rate sufficiently low to prevent distortion of the web on impact. Improved drainage is achieved by heating the suspension to a temperature less than about 150.degree., to prevent the cooking of the starched particles. The curtain may be applied to the web at fourdrinier table consistencies as low as about 2% and still obtain starch retention rates of about 80%.

  • Patent number: 5784330
Abstract: A device for accessing a specific word line in a memory array has improved noise protection by smoothing out the RC load in the word line mapping circuit. The word lines are respectively connected to rows of memory cells in the memory array, and predecoded word lines are used to decode encoded addresses which correspond to the various rows. The circuit connects the word lines to the predecoded word lines by gates which are tapped into the predecoded word lines, and the taps on a given predecoded word line are non-adjacent, to more evenly distribute the RC delay for each predecoded word line. In other words, the word lines are interspersed, out of order. The word lines can be interspersed randomly, or according to a predetermined function, such as a modulo function. The RC load for a given predecoded word line is preferably uniformly distributed along substantially the entire length of the predecoded word line.

  • Patent number: 5781799
Abstract: A method and arrangement for performing direct memory access in a computer system having multi-channel direct memory access (DMA) is provided with a host computer having a main memory and a processor that runs software, a system interface bus coupling the host computer and the main memory, and multiple DMA controllers, on separate chips, coupled to the system interface bus. These multiple DMA controllers provide the system with multiple input/output (I/O) channels. A common buffer pool having a plurality of buffers is accessible to each of the multiple channels for buffering data transferred to or from the host computer. A status queue is also provided, with each entry in the status queue indicating whether a corresponding buffer from the common pool of buffers is a free buffer available for use by one of the DMA channels in a DMA transaction.

  • Patent number: 5777894
Abstract: In a microcontroller-based system that controls the operation of equipment such as lights and wipers in an automobile, overcurrent is detected by comparing the total current through the device with a stored level. If the detected current is excessive the devices are independently activated and the current through each device is compared with stored current level for the device. A device having an overcurrent condition is inactivated and the remaining devices are activated.
