  • Publication number: 20030159662
Abstract: A system for maintaining an optimal flue gas inlet to a boiler mounted SCR assembly in the flue of the boiler is accomplished by mixing the normal inlet feedwater to an economizer of the boiler with near saturation water from downcomers of the boiler to thereby raise the temperature of the flue gas passing across the economizer and raising the SCR inlet to the desired optimal SCR operation temperature.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 27, 2002
    Publication date: August 28, 2003
Inventors: Melvin J. Albrecht, John B. Rogan

  • Patent number: 4883847
Abstract: A method is disclosed for terminating a polymerization reaction of reactive olefins and a Lewis acid catalyst wherein the reaction is killed almost instantaneously to prevent an explosion. The material added to terminate the reaction is non-toxic and is easily removable in further processing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 27, 1988
Date of Patent: November 28, 1989
    Assignee: Amoco Corporation
Inventors: Linus Leung, John B. Rogan
  • Patent number: 4334047
Abstract: Improved catalysts are disclosed for producing highly crystalline alpha-olefin polymers and highly crystalline copolymers of an alpha-olefin with ethylene or other olefins. Such catalysts can reduce the amount of coproduced amorphous polymer formed without substantial adverse effect on polymerization yield. These novel catalysts involve improving an alkylaluminum component-titanium chloride catalyst by using such catalyst in combination with effective amounts of sulfur dioxide and certain amines. Such catalyst compositions are useful in slurry polymerization, bulk polymerization and, particularly, vapor phase polymerization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 2, 1977
Date of Patent: June 8, 1982
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
Inventors: John B. Rogan, Robert V. Morris
  • Patent number: 4288580
Abstract: Novel catalysts and processes are disclosed for producing highly crystalline polypropylene and highly crystalline copolymers of propylene with ethylene or propylene with other alpha-olefins. Such catalysts can reduce the amount of low-molecular-weight and, particularly, amorphous polymers formed without serious effect on the polymerization yield. These novel catalysts and processes involve improving an alkyl-aluminum compound-titanium chloride catalyst by using in combination small amounts of sulfur dioxide and isobutylvinyl ether. Such catalyst systems are useful in slurry polymerization, bulk polymerization and techniques in which polymerization is accomplished utilizing monomer substantially in the vapor phase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 3, 1977
Date of Patent: September 8, 1981
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
Inventors: John B. Rogan, Charles K. Buehler
  • Patent number: 4255281
Abstract: Process for modifying a titanium trichloride-organoaluminum alpha-olefin polymerization catalyst to reduce production of alkane soluble products during polymerization of alpha-olefins in the presence of such catalyst without substantial decreases in catalyst activity, said process comprising combining in an inert diluent and in the substantial absence of catalyst poisons, components comprising an alkylaluminum component, a titanium trichloride, hydrogen sulfide or a bis-(trialkyltin)sulfide, a tertiary amine, and an aromatic dicarbonyl compound selected from the group consisting of dialdehydes and lower alkyl diesters of ortho-, para- and meta-phthalic acids. Polyalpha-olefins containing reduced levels of low molecular weight and amorphous components are produced by contacting the catalysts with at least one polymerizable alpha-olefin under polymerizing conditions.

  • Patent number: 4072809
Abstract: Novel catalysts and processes are disclosed for producing highly crystalline polypropylene and highly crystalline copolymers of propylene with ethylene or propylene with other alpha-olefins. Such catalysts can reduce the amount of low-molecular-weight and, particularly, amorphous polymers formed without serious effect on the polymerization yield. These novel catalysts and processes involve improving an alkylaluminum compound-titanium chloride catalyst by using in combination small amounts of hydrogen sulfide and a sterically hindered, lower alkyl substituted, cyclic, tertiary amine, a sterically hindered, lower alkyl substituted, cyclic, amine oxide, or a trihydrocarbylphosphite. Such catalyst systems are useful in slurry polymerization, bulk polymerization and techniques in which polymerization is accomplished utilizing monomer substantially in the vapor phase.
