  • Publication number: 20060089511
Abstract: A process for the preparation of 4-oxo-4-((4-(phenylamino)phenyl)amino)-2-butenoic acid includes reacting p-aminodiphenyl amine and maleic anhydride in a reaction first mixture containing a volatile organic solvent under suitable reaction conditions to provide a second mixture containing 4-oxo-4-((4-(phenylamino)phenyl)amino)-2-butenoic acid product; subjecting the second mixture to vacuum distillation to remove the volatile organic solvent while simultaneously adding diluent oil to produce a dispersion of 4-oxo-4-((4-(phenylamino)phenyl)amino)-2-butenoic acid in the diluent oil.

  • Publication number: 20050242328
Abstract: A method of making a hindered phenolic antioxidant is disclosed wherein the method comprises: reacting an ester of the formula: wherein R1, R2, and R3 are independently selected alkyl groups and n is 0, 1, or 2, with an aliphatic polyhydroxyl alcohol of the general formula R(OH)n wherein R is an aliphatic group of from 2 to about 12 carbon atoms and n is an integer of from 2 to 7, provided that one hydroxyl is primary and the others are secondary or tertiary, in the presence of a strong acid catalyst; then, neutralizing the strong acid catalyst with an overbased detergent; and isolating the hindered phenolic antioxidant after the neutralization step.

  • Publication number: 20050230664
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a composition comprising: A) a lubricant; and B) a mixture of antioxidants, wherein said mixture is prepared by the partial condensation of an alkylated diphenylamine with an aldehyde or ketone in the presence of an acidic catalyst to yield at least one acridan of the general formula: wherein: R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C3 to C32 alkyl, and C3 to C32 alkenyl, provided that at least one of R1, R2, R3, and R4 is not hydrogen, and R5 and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of C1 to C20 hydrocarbyl and hydrogen; wherein, at the termination of said condensation, residual alkylated diphenylamine is not separated from the acridan product.
