  • Patent number: 7147251
Abstract: A pretensioner for a three point seat belt has a cylinder adapted to be attached to a structural member of a vehicle and a piston disposed within the cylinder. A pyrotechnic means moves the piston in a direction that is longitudinal relative to the cylinder in a pretensioning direction. A slider bar is oriented substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the cylinder. A seat belt webbing is looped around the slider bar such that the seat belt webbing can freely move along a portion of the slider bar that is oriented substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the cylinder so long as the pyrotechnic means for moving the piston has not been activated. A cable extends from the piston and loops around the seat belt webbing to cause the seat belt webbing to move along the slider bar in a pretensioning direction when the pyrotechnic means for moving the piston is activated.

  • Patent number: 7137650
Abstract: A pretensioner for a three point seat belt has a cylinder adapted to be attached to a structural member of the vehicle and a piston disposed within the cylinder. The piston can move translationally relative to the cylinder in a pretensioning direction. A flexible member is arranged in a curved profile with a seat belt webbing being attached to the flexible member. The flexible member has a first end that can be pulled by the piston and a second end releasably connected to an exterior of the cylinder such that when the piston moves translationally relative to the cylinder the second end of the flexible member moves translationally relative to the cylinder along the exterior of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 7133869
Abstract: Methods and systems for defining and distributing information alerts include presenting a user with a series of templates that allows the user to define security events, information alerts to be triggered by the events, and intended recipients for the alerts. Intended recipients for the alerts are presented with templates that allow the individuals to input contact and schedule information for receiving the information alerts. A knowledge switch uses the event definitions and the contact and schedule information to detect events and distribute the information alerts to the intended recipients when an event occurs. The information alerts include directives that instruct intended recipients regarding action to be taken in response to a security event.

  • Patent number: 7131667
Abstract: A pretensioner for a three point vehicle safety restraint seat belt, has a mounting for one end of the seat belt. The mounting is a first member fixed to a load bearing part of the vehicle. A second member is attached to the end of the seat belt. A means is provided for moving the second member relative to the first member in a pretensioning direction in response to activation of a crash sensor. The mounting may be a flexible cable that functions as a slider bar. A piston-cylinder force reservoir may be used either to pull the slider bar via a carriage mounted on a rail, or to pull the cable directly. Return motion is preferably inhibited. The arrangement provides a space saving pretensioner suitable for two-door vehicles while allowing access to the vehicle rear.

  • Patent number: 7118133
Abstract: A seat belt pretensioner acts upon the sill end of a three point seat belt. A fixed member of the pretensioner is adapted to be fixed to a load bearing part of the vehicle. A movable member is connected to the sill end of the seat belt and is slideable with respect to the fixed member. The movable member is moved in a direction that is longitudinal relative to the fixed member to move the sill end of the seat belt in a pretensioning direction in response to a signal from a crash sensor. In this way the sill end of the seat belt is free to move along a connecting member when the seat belt is not under tension either from use in restraining a seat occupant and/or from a pretensioning operation.

  • Publication number: 20060222828
Abstract: The present invention foregoes use of PVC in printable media and instead provides a lightweight recyclable display media comprised generally of a printable coated scrim. The display media includes a base layer or scrim comprised of a polymer material and formed by woven, non-woven, or knit sheet-forming techniques. A non-vinyl body coating is applied to the base layer to add stiffness, body, and printability to the media. The body layer is comprised, at least partially, of urethane, acrylic, or blended urethane/acrylic materials. These materials add body and durability to the base layer without presenting the environmental difficulties attributable to PVC. The non-vinyl body coating may further comprise ink receptive materials or fillers that enhance ink retention in the media. The display media may be printed through a variety of printing techniques known in the art.

  • Patent number: 7072543
Abstract: An apparatus for transmission of free space optical communication system signals employing a spatially-extended light source and method of using the same. A laser beam source directs an optical signal into a free end of a segment of multimode fiber. As the optical signal passes through the segment of multimode fiber, the optical signal is converted into a mode-scrambled optical signal. This mode-scrambled signal may then be used as a spatially-extended light source that is directed outward as an optical beam through the use of a collimating lens.

  • Publication number: 20060093613
Abstract: The present invention relates to a recombinant soluble T cell receptor. The T cell receptor (TCR) is refolded and comprises a recombinant TCR ? or ? chain extracellular domain having a first heterologous C-terminal dimerization peptide; and a recombinant TCR ? or ? chain extracellular domain having a second C-terminal dimerization peptide which is specifically heterodimerized with the first dimerization peptide to form a heterodimerization domain, which may be a coiled coil domain. The invention also provides nucleic acid sequences encoding the recombinant TCR and a method for producing the recombinant TCR. The TCR may be labelled with a detectable label so as to enable the detection of specific MHC-peptide complexes. Alternatively, it can be linked to a therapeutic agent such as a cytotoxic agent or an immunostimulating agent so as to deliver such an agent to the site of a specific MHC-peptide complex.

  • Publication number: 20060076448
Abstract: A seat belt retractor has a rotating spool for retraction or pay-out of seat belt webbing. A locking ring is attached to one end of the spool. The locking ring is locked against rotation when a crash is sensed. A force limiting means allows further pay-out of the seat belt webbing after the locking ring has locked. Coupled in the force path between the spool and the locking ring, the force limiting means has a primary force limiting means; and a secondary force limiting means. The force limiting means include an elongate deformable member, arranged such that relative rotation between the spool and the locking ring causes a predetermined length of the deformable member to be deformed during a first stage of load limiting. The cross-sectional area of the deformable member is uniform over a major portion of the predetermined length and is reduced over at least one minor portion located a distance from the end of the member.

  • Patent number: 7025297
Abstract: A seat belt retractor has a spool mounted for rotation on the retractor, for retraction or payout of seat-belt webbing depending upon the rotation direction of the spool. The spool is locked against rotation when a crash condition is sensed. A force limiter allows further payout of the seat belt webbing after the spool shaft has locked, under the influence of a vehicle occupant's forward momentum. The force limiter has a first resilient component attached in the force path between the spool and the locking component. A second resilient component is a wire releasably held in the force path between the spool and the locking component by a locking plate engaged with the locking component. The wire is released from the force path by disengagement between the locking plate and the locking component.
